Dear MUMS Community,

We hope this message finds you well. The grounds were wet this week, but teams managed to find places and spaces to get outside and enjoy the more seasonable temperatures which is so important.

Additionally, we had many clubs begin this week at MUMS which is an important part of the fabric of our school. Next week many of our teams begin sports contests against other schools and next Friday we will host our one and only HOME Cross Country meet! Come on out and cheer on our students if you are around and able.

Lastly, we hope to see you at next week's "Back to School night" on Wednesday 09.20.23 from 6:00-7:30. This event is a caregiver only event designed to give Caregivers the opportunity to visit different locations around MUMS, meet their student’s teachers and learn more about life and systems here at the middle school. We hope to see you all here!

If you have questions, please reach out to us at mwisell@acsdvt.org (Michaela)

or zjerome@acsdvt.org (Zach) or by calling the MUMS office at 802-382-1600 or by visiting the MUMS website for more information.

Ongoing Equity Work at MUMS

As part of our ongoing equity work across ACSD, on Monday Sept 18th, Dr. Rebecca Eunmi Haslam will join the MUMS faculty, staff and administration to facilitate an in-person circle protocol using a restorative approach.

This circle will address the departure of our colleague and the racial harm that contextualized her experience in ACSD. The goals are to provide an opportunity for MUMS employees to engage in a guided conversation that allows them to learn how their colleagues are making sense of the issue, articulate their own feelings and understandings, discuss action steps needed, and share ideas about how to address the conversation with students at school.

This work will provide further context for the broader work within ACSD reflected in a separate proposal and contract which includes ongoing follow up, consultation, and support toward next steps forward for our district.

From our MYP Coordinators

6th Grade General Music:

Our IB Learner Profile in Action!

In Grade 6 General Music, students are engaging in a hands-on approach (literally!) with their learning by playing guitar. They continue to show their growth as risk takers as they practice and perform in small ensembles and individually. Students are playing their first chords, learning how to transition between them and practicing strategies they can use to persevere when things get hard. Ask a 6th grader about what they’ve learned on the guitar since the first week of school! Thanks for your great work, 6th graders, Mr. Sherman and Mr. Young!

Have a great weekend,

Pam Quinn and Eileen Sears, MYP Coordinators
