Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 20th March 2026
Roman Soldiers
Year 3 Visit
On Tuesday, the children in Year 3 signed up for 25 years' service in the Roman Army at Murton Park. They were provided with military uniform and learned all about life for auxiliary soldiers in the Roman Army. They made their own Roman oil lamps, wrote in the Roman script and in the afternoon, it was time for weapons training! The children were a credit to the school and thoroughly enjoyed their day.
St. Cuthbert's Day
Today we remembered our local saint, St. Cuthbert, who is commemorated in the cross on the field and in the name of a local street where several of our families live. In fact, children at our school chose the name when the houses were first built there!
Children from all year groups enjoyed following a trail about St. Cuthbert around our grounds and reflected on his life. Year 2 reported:
This week, we have been learning about St Cuthbert of Ripon and why he is an important figure in our local history. To bring our learning to life, we took part in an exciting orienteering activity around the playground and Forest School area, where we searched for clues about his life.
At each station, we discovered new information and collected different symbols, which helped us build a fuller picture of St Cuthbert’s story.
Red Nose Day
Thank you so much for all donations made so far on ParentPay. £110 is our current total but we're sure it will be higher by the end of the day! The children looked great in their whacky hair and silly hats, with many staff joining in the 'funny for money' fun too!
