Principal Update to JES Families
17 - November - 2025
Message From the Principal
I hope that this message finds you well. It's hard to believe that we are already in the second quarter of the school year. With report cards made available to families and the Race For Education in the books, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the support of all things Jacksonville. We had 485 students who earned a Virtues Certificate during the first quarter alone. Congrats and keep up the awesome work students!
I also want to take a moment to express my gratitude to JES Faculty and Staff members who continue to inspire our children daily. You show care for students through 5-Star instruction and building our learners up both academically and socially. Kudos to Katia Rivadeneyra, Grade 5 parent, for organizing the talented Mariachi Band that visited JES a week ago. Our students and faculty enjoyed the show! A big thank you to Julie Seiler, Erinn Hull, DJ Ben and the entire PTA for organizing and facilitating an outstanding and highly successful Race For Education fundraiser.
๐ Our current attendance rate is 97.59% We love seeing our students here every day! ๐
- Mr. Bayne, Principal

๐ Race For Education -- A Day To Remember!
Race For Education has raised 69K in donations to date
JES students enjoyed a beautiful November Friday participating in the Race For Education fun run and walk.
The Race is a fundraiser for a new playground and organized by the PTA. Big shout out to Julie Seiler and Erinn Hull.
Fourth Grade students take a break from their run to enjoy the camaraderie among their classmates.
Students from Pre-K through Grade 5 have helped to secure donations
JES racers ready to get started!
Jacksonville Named 5-Star School By MSDE
JES was recently named a 5-Star elementary school by the Maryland State Department of Education. This is the highest distinction for Maryland public schools across the state. The rating reflects various data points (academic achievement, academic progress, school quality and student success, attendance) for the 2024-2025 academic year.
From The Physical Education Team
Kindergarten will be exploring manipulatives including hula hoops, rings and beanbags.
We started our Floor Hockey activities this week for Grades 1-5. After a few lessons of skill practice, including stick control, dribbling, passing and shooting, we will begin our games! Ask your child about some of their favorites!
Please check your child's special area schedule to be sure they are wearing sneakers on their PE days. Thank you in advance for your help with this.
Ms. Lee and Mrs. Springer
From The Library Media Specialist
The school year is off to a fantastic start! During September and October, students checked out an amazing 5,899 books โ way to go, readers! In library class, weโve been learning how to be great digital citizens, with lessons on cyberbullying, digital footprints, and copyright laws.
One quick reminder: a few books have come back with water damage from leaky water bottles in backpacks. To help keep books safe and dry, please consider placing library books in a freezer bag or separate compartment to help keep them safe and dry.
Mrs. Stewart
From The Art Department
During the first quarter in the art room, we focused on the following Elements of Art; specifically, the elements of color, lines, space, and shape. These elements are reflected in the projects below.
Kindergarten- Line Monsters
First Grade- Xul Solar inspired buildings and Wassily Kandinsky inspired paintings
Second Grade- Waterfalls
Third Grade- Color Wheel Umbrellas
Fourth Grade- Tigers
Fifth Grade- Mannequin Drawings
Some children have worn their art smocks home. Please double check with your child to make sure he/she currently has an art smock at school.
Ms. Barton
From The Vocal Music Department
In Vocal Music class, we have been building our rhythm skills by reviewing notes we have previously learned and adding new rhythms. We can read and write them in order to compose and perform with them.
We are now taking a look at various pieces of music and how composers use tempo (speed) and dynamics (volume) to help tell a story. Kindergarten and second grade classes will get to experience this up close when we visit the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in a few weeks!
Fifth graders are looking forward to sharing all of their hard work when they perform at the Winter Concert on Tuesday, December 9, at 6:30 p.m.
Mrs. Tice
From The Instrumental Music Department
5th Grade Instrumental Music -
Our Winter Concert is rapidly approaching! I am so excited for the students to show you what they have learned in their lessons over the past two months. The Winter Concert will be on Tuesday, December 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Jacksonville Cafetorium.
Students are asked to dress nicely in pants, button-down or collared shirts, or dresses/skirts that cover the knee when sitting. There is a school-wide dress rehearsal for the school during the day. Students can wear what they would normally wear to school and bring an accessory for some festive flair if they choose (as long as it does not interfere with playing their instrument).
Arrival Times Orchestra: 5:40 p.m. Percussion: 5:50 p.m. Band: 6:00 p.m. All students not in instrumental music will arrive for the chorus call time of 6:15 p.m.
As we prepare, please encourage your students to practice 2-3x a week for about 10 minutes. This is also a great time to make sure their names are on their cases, lesson books, and any other equipment.
As we incorporate larger groupings in lessons to prepare for the concert, here are some helpful definitions you might see on the schedule: Orchestra: violin, viola, cello, harp; Percussion: anyone with a percussion kit; Winds: flute, clarinet, saxophones, trumpet, trombone (anything you blow into); Band: all winds and percussion unless otherwise noted.
Schedule Addition! On Wednesday, November 26, we will have an โinstrument-lessโ run through of the winter concert in the morning to work out the logistics and transitions of our first concert. Students do not need their instruments that day.
4th Grade Exploratory Music -
Students have been learning about the woodwind family and have been playing the clarinet in class! We have been listening to different woodwind performances, playing melodies on the clarinet, and even wrote our first melodic compositions!
Mrs. Russell
