Dear Families,

Welcome to the Maple Street Magnet School! The staff and I are excited about the new opportunities and journey this school year will bring! I hope everyone had an opportunity to relax and recharge!

A friendly reminder that our school doors now open at 8:15am (there will no longer be morning recess). Students will report to our cafeteria where they will be able to have breakfast and spend time socializing with peers until the start of class. If a student arrives late and is still in need of breakfast, one will be provided for them and they will be able to eat this in their classroom.

Please be sure to read and review the Maple Street Magnet School Parent/Student Handbook. This handbook serves as a reference for important dates, policies and other pertinent information about our amazing school and district. To access the handbook online, please click HERE.

Important Times To Remember in 2022-2023...

Each school day officially begins at 8:30 in the classroom (students are tardy if they arrive after this time). Our school doors open at 8:15am.

Each school day officially ends at 3:00pm. Students that leave early do lose attendance time. All parts of the school day are important!

IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR STUDENT HANDBOOK IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR STUDENT HANDBOOK

Please review the following highlights, but be sure to read the entire handbook before completing the online forms.

***If you require a paper copy of the agreement forms, simply call our main office at 603-332-6481 and we will make sure a paper copy goes home with your child!***

IN THE EVENT OF SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS OR EARLY RELEASES:

In the case of inclement weather, or other reasons, parents will be contacted using our Thrillshare program. Please make sure we have your current contact information updated in our office.

Also, please note, in the event of school cancellation due to inclement weather, MSMS will continue to have a remote learning day. Details will be provided to families prior to this occuring.

Please consider downloading our school district app to stay abreast of all things related to our schools. You can download the app for free on the Apple or Google Play stores. Search for SAU 54 Rochester, NH

Through this app, you will be able to choose how to receive notifications (by email, phone, or text).

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE DIRECTIONS:

  • For the welfare and safety of all students, it is requested that students do not arrive at school any earlier than 8:15 a.m.

  • This is especially important for those children who walk, ride bicycles or whom parents drop off.

  • There is no supervision prior to this time.

  • The doors to the elementary school buildings will be locked until 8:15 a.m.

  • The first bell rings at 8:15 and the start of class bell rings at 8:30 a.m.

  • Classroom instruction begins promptly at 8:30 a.m.

STUDENT ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL PRECAUTIONS:

Parking:

Please do not park in the bus loading and unloading zones in front of our school building during the following times: 8:15. -8:45. and 2:50 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Please do not arrive earlier than 2:50 to pick up your child. This will assist in decreasing any traffic build up in our neighborhood.

Parent Drop-Off and Pickup:

  • To allow for a safe arrival for all students we ask that parents do not approach the school from Maple Street.
  • Drivers please use Lafayette or Chestnut Street and then turn on to Waldron.
  • If approaching from Washington Street, drivers may want to enter through Cleveland or Sylvain Street and turn onto Pine, then onto Waldron.
  • At the intersection of Waldron and Maple, please turn onto Maple and drive three car lengths along the playground side of the street.
  • Please do not block the driveways of our neighbors.
  • Car riders should remain in the vehicle until the designated drop off area is reached. A staff member will be there to guide students.
  • Maple Street is a ONE way street. Please do not go against the flow of traffic to drop off/pick up your child from before/after care, or at any point in the day.

BUS

The school bus is an extension of the school, and all Rochester School Board Policies, school rules, and regulations which pertain to student conduct in the schools are applicable to student conduct on a school bus. As at school, students are expected to behave in a safe, respectful and responsible manner on the school bus.

CHANGES TO AFTERNOON TRANSPORTATION:

Please contact our office by 2:30pm for changes in transportation. This is for the safety of our students. If we do not have a note or phone call from a parent/guardian informing us of a change in how their child will be going home, the student will follow the original documented mode of afternoon transportation (i.e. bus, walker, car rider).

VISITORS:

All visitors must sign in at the front desk and obtain a "Visitor Badge". Parents are encouraged to attend awards assemblies and other special events during the school year. However, to avoid classroom interruptions, parents are not allowed to visit in classrooms while students are present.

CLASS PARTIES:

At their discretion, teachers may ask parents or caregiver volunteers to assist during parties or special activities.

PARENT & TEACHER CONFERENCES (scheduled 3 times a year):

Parent-teacher conferences are set up during the school year on the school calendar, but we encourage parents to meet with teachers at other times as well. If any parent wants to see a teacher during the school day, it must be done by appointment. An appointment can be made through the teacher or by phoning the school office.

EASY COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SCHOOL TO HOME; HOME TO SCHOOL:

  • Each class teacher has adopted a communication tool/style that works best for their classroom. Depending on who you have, you may use Class DoJo, SeeSaw, email, or Rooms through our Rochester School District mobile app.
  • eMails, pre-scheduled visits to the school, and phone calls, are still a quality form of communication too.
  • Please consider downloading our school district app to stay abreast of all things related to our schools. You can download the app for free on the Apple or Google Play stores. Search for SAU 54 Rochester, NH

MTSS-B (Multi-Tiered Systems and Supports - in the area of Behavior)

MTSS-B is a 3 tiered system which allows us to teach school-wide, and targeted, routines for expected behavior; creating a positive school climate that enhances learning and pro-social growth. Our Rochester School District Expectations are: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful.

CELL PHONES:

Cell phones/smart watches must be kept in a student's bag at all times. If a parent/guardian is in need of reaching their child, please call our front desk at 603-332-6481, and we will be happy to relay any messages to your student.
