LAMBERT
December 2025 Edition

Dear Longhorn Families,
It’s hard to believe we are already approaching the end of our first semester of the school year! The weeks have moved quickly, and December always seems to bring its own unique mix of excitement, deadlines, and busy schedules.
This month can be especially stressful for students as they work through final assignments and prepare for midterms. Please encourage your student(s) to lean into the resources available to them. Lunch & Learn continues to be an excellent opportunity to make up work, study, or connect directly with teachers for support in specific courses. As always, our goal is to partner with you to ensure every student finishes strong. If your student needs assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to our teaching staff, counselors, or administrative team — we are here to help.
Amid the whirlwind that December tends to bring, I hope our students experience a positive and successful end to the semester, and that your family finds time for rest, joy, and connection over Winter Break.
From my family to yours: Happy Holidays, and warmest wishes for a wonderful 2026!
Sincerely,
Amanda Thrower
Principal, Lambert High School

MEDICAL LOCKDOWNS AT LAMBERT
You may notice that Lambert has more medical lockdowns than your student's previous middle and elementary schools, and we want to provide clarity about why that is and what these procedures are designed to accomplish.
Lambert serves a very large student population — over 3,200 students — which means we support a wide range of health needs on any given day. Our students and staff manage everything from seizure plans, diabetes, severe allergies, and anxiety disorders to other medical conditions that require quick and coordinated responses. With a school this size, the volume of medical situations we respond to will naturally be higher.
A medical lockdown is a routine procedure we use to protect the privacy and dignity of the individual experiencing a health concern. In many cases, the lockdown allows us to discreetly transition a student or staff member to the clinic, to a family member’s vehicle, or, when necessary, to an ambulance.
Locking down the building for a short period also allows us to focus our administrative and nursing teams entirely on the individual who needs care, without movement through hallways or distractions that could slow our response. As soon as the situation is resolved, we return to normal operations quickly.
We know families receive notifications of every medical lockdown, and without context, those messages can feel concerning. Please know:
-
Medical lockdowns are not safety threats.
-
They are not indicators of emergencies affecting the school as a whole.
-
They are simply one of the ways we ensure we are responsive, respectful, and protective of those who need medical attention.
Our goal is always to be transparent with our community while safeguarding individual privacy. Above all, student and staff safety is our highest priority, and this procedure helps us maintain that standard consistently.
MIDTERMS - PLAN ACCORDINGLY
We highly encourage our families NOT to plan trips on midterm exam dates. Midterms cannot be administered early, and making them up after the long break does not set students up for optimal success. Thank you in advance for planning accordingly.
- Tuesday, December 16 (8-period day)
- Wednesday, December 17 (early release)
- Thursday, December 18 (early release)
- Friday, December 19 (early release)
EARLY CHECKOUT OPTION ON FRIDAY, DEC. 19
Below is the midterm exam schedule. Please note there is a makeup exam period on Friday, 12/19. If your student does not have a makeup exam to take on Friday and would like to leave campus early after the 8th period exam, please fill out THIS FORM and have your child turn it in to the counseling office or main office no later than Friday, Dec. 12th. The form will also be given out to students in Advisement on Friday, December 5th. They can also pick one up in the counseling office. Turning in the form will enable students to check out early/not stay for the makeup period without having to go through the formal checkout process/having a parent walk into the building to the attendance office.
SHOW YOUR SPIRIT!
Congratulations to our November LONGHORN PRIDE Recipients!
JUNIOR INFORMATION STUDENT MEETINGS
Attention Junior Parents: Ask your student to show you their graduation status sheet the week of Dec. 1st-5th. Counselors will be visiting junior literature classes to share individual graduation updates with students during this week. For more information, see the Junior Information Night Presentation.
If your student does not have a literature class on-campus due to taking it through Dual Enrollment or FVA/GAVS, please plan to have your child attend the Junior Information makeup lunch session on Monday, December 8th during 5th/6th lunches in the LHS Auditorium. Students only can join us for information regarding college exploration, HOPE scholarship information, Dual Enrollment, SAT and ACT preparation, and many other items!
YEARBOOK PICTURE CONFIRMATIONS
It's yearbook photo confirmation time! Students need to check their yearbook photo for any issues December 5-10. Students should log into the Lambert Student Info Canvas page and follow directions there. Any issues- name, grade, photo, or preferred nickname- means students need to fill out the form in the Lambert Student Info Canvas page to alert the yearbook staff of the issue so it can be fixed.
MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL
We kindly ask that parents and guardians notify the school clinic if your student has a health condition that may require care or support during the school day or extracurricular activities. This includes conditions such as asthma, severe allergies, frequent headaches or migraines, gastrointestinal or genitourinary concerns, and more.
Please remember that, per the Forsyth County Schools Code of Conduct, students are not permitted to carry any medications - including prescription and over-the-counter medications - while at school. Medications must be brought to school by a parent or guardian, students may not transport medications themselves. The only exceptions are life-saving emergency medications (such as inhalers, EpiPens, or diabetic supplies), and these must have the appropriate documentation on file in the clinic.
All health and medication forms can be found on the school nurse webpage, under FCS Health Care Plans and Medication Forms. If you have any questions, need help with forms, or want to discuss your student’s health needs, please don’t hesitate to contact Nurse Surio and Nurse G at LHSNurse@forsyth.k12.ga.us. Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe, healthy, and ready to succeed!
We have arrived to Cold and Flu season, where we tend to see an increase in illnesses. If your student is diagnosed with a communicable disease such as mono, flu, strep, impetigo, staph infection, or meningitis etc., please notify the school nurses at LHSNurse@forsyth.k12.ga.us.
Additionally, as a reminder, for the health and safety of students and staff please remember to adhere to the Forsyth County Illness guidelines of meeting the following criteria before returning to school and/or school activities:
Your child must be fever free for a full 24-hour period without the use of fever-reducing medications (ie Tylenol, Ibuprofen).
Your child must be free of vomiting and/or diarrhea for a full 24-hour period.
Your child should also have an overall improvement in their symptoms and be able to tolerate their school day.
If an antibiotic has been prescribed, then the antibiotic must be administered for a full 24-hour period.
This time of year also brings more respiratory illnesses and asthma flare-ups. We’ve noticed an increase in fragrances around campus—please remind students that body sprays and deodorants should be used only in locker rooms after workouts, not in classrooms or hallways. Thank you for helping us keep our school healthy and comfortable for everyone!
