March News and Events
March 4, 2026
Hello Eisenhower Families!
The month of February is always so much fun as we celebrate the joy of reading all month long. Now that the month is over, we are hoping our students continue to engage in reading as strong literacy skills open doors to endless opportunity.
To help your child dive into a good book, consider these three simple tips at home:
- The 20-Minute Rule: Reading just 20 minutes a day exposes children to 1.8 million words per year.
- Model the Behavior: Let your kids see you reading—whether it’s a novel, a cookbook, or the news.
- Audiobooks Count: Listening to a story helps build comprehension and vocabulary just as much as physical reading.
Tips for Recess
As the snow melts and the pavement reappears, we know the kids are eager to run!
- For safety reasons, please ensure your child wears closed-toe shoes for recess, sneakers are best. Also please keep in mind that the ground can be really wet this time of year so it's a good idea to keep an extra pair of socks and even pants in your child's locker or backpack.
- As the weather warms up, students tend to leave coats and sweatshirts laying around and our lost and found begins to grow. Write student names on tags when possible.
Soccer Nets
Our PTO works hard behind the scenes to organize our Hike for Ike fundraiser each year. For the past couple of years we've been working to put in a soccer field for our students to enjoy at recess. I'm happy to share that nets have been ordered and should be installed this spring. Families, please accept this HUGE THANK YOU for supporting this fundraiser each year. It really does make a big difference.
In appreciation and partnership,
Lillian DeRung
Principal

Pre-K to Grade 3 Parenting Education: Did you know?
Parenting styles include how you teach your child, set limits, and create a healthy home environment. Parenting with your spouse or partner can be tricky if your parenting styles don’t always feel like they work together.
There are 4 common parenting styles: Authoritarian, Authoritative, Permissive, and Uninvolved. Many people fit into more than one style.
Parenting styles can be different, but still cohesive!
Understanding where you and your partner agree and disagree is the first step to balanced parenting.
Want to learn more? Take a look at this quiz to consider how you and your partner parent together.

Workroom Volunteer for Trimester 3 - Our school staff is looking for a volunteer(s) for the staff workroom on Tuesday and Thursday for 1 - 2 hours. (Volunteers can choose what time works best for them during the school day, 9:30-4:00 pm.) Volunteers would help with making copies, laminate projects, cutting and/or prep. Staff will complete a workroom request form with instructions. Myself or the office staff would be available for questions and training.
Every Meal Food Distribution for Trimester 3 - We are looking for volunteers to distribute food for the school's Every Meal program. Every Meal works to fight hunger in our community by filling the gaps in food access that children face during weekends, summers, and extended breaks. Volunteers will be placing food in Students' lockers on Friday mornings from 10:00-11:00 am (we will have extra days due to school breaks).
Watch Dogs - Is an innovative program being used by schools across America which helps them to be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers and father-figures in their student’s life. Our goal is to have you spend a day this year at the school to be a positive male role model and to provide an extra set of eyes and ears. Watch Dogs will be volunteering at recess, the lunchroom and in gym class. Your Watch Dogs day will start at 10:50 and end around 3:50 pm. After you check in at the main office your day will start in our lunchroom. While in the lunchroom you will be visiting students and helping with opening lunch items as needed. Next you will be heading outside to join students at recess. At recess please feel free to visit and play games. Your day will end at Physical Education (PE). Please feel free in joining the class, you never know what fun exercise themed event they will be working on. My favorite is the giant parachute. During the day if you have any questions please feel to ask a staff member or stop in the office.
Please don’t hesitate to call me if an opportunity arises that you would like to be involved in or to say “Hello” anytime!
Thank you and I look forward to working with you here at Eisenhower
