Dear MSMS Families,

As we turn the calendar to October, I want to share a little more than what is happening at MSMS. I want to share why these experiences matter and what we are continuing to build for our students.

Our mission is to be a safe school advancing the best teaching, the best learning, and a sense of belonging for ALL. This year, Every Mile Matters has been our reminder that accomplishing that mission happens one experience, relationship, challenge, success, and day at a time.

Last year, we challenged ourselves to think more deeply about an important question: What should learning actually feel like for a student at MSMS? That work continues this year.

We want students doing the intellectual work—thinking, questioning, explaining, creating, problem-solving, collaborating, and making connections. We want students to understand what they are learning, why it matters, and how it connects to the world around them.

We see this work happening at MSMS in moments like these: 6th graders interacting with primitive tools as they begin studying The Human Story, 7th graders learning pottery alongside a practicing artist, and students across our school being asked to think, create, collaborate, and engage more deeply in their learning.

This year, we're taking the next step. Through our Habits of Heart & Mind—Integrity, Empathy, Ownership, and Endurance—we are becoming more intentional not only about what and how students learn, but about who they are becoming in the process. These habits give us a common language for helping students reflect, grow, persevere, take responsibility, and contribute to their community.

We're not starting over: we're building forward. We're taking the work of last year, strengthening it, and adding another layer to what we believe a great middle school experience should provide.

That's what it means to level up. And it's why Every Mile Matters.

Warmly,
Tyler

Our sixth grade students took part in an in-house field experience, getting hands-on with primitive tools created by their very own math teacher, Mr. Hill! This experience helped launch Mr. Matt’s social studies unit, The Human Story, giving students a chance to experience and wonder about how early humans lived, adapted, and solve problems.

A great example of learning moving beyond the textbook. Every Mile Matters!

What a week it was at MSMS! Our Middle School students and staff showed out in full force for Spirit Week (Sep. 21–25), bringing endless creativity and Mustang pride to the halls every single day.

Here is how we dressed up and showed our spirit throughout the week:

1.Monday: Zoom Call Day:

Business on top, pajamas on the bottom! Students kicked off the week keeping it ultra-relatable with their best video-conference outfits.

2.Tuesday: Scrabble Day:

Halls turned into a giant word game as everyone wore their favorite letters to spell out fun words and phrases with friends.

3.Wednesday: Class Color Day:

The school showed off true class unity! 6th graders repped Blue, 7th graders rocked Red, 8th graders went all out in Pink, and our teachers held it down in Black.

4.Thursday: Dress for the Wrong Occasion:

Prom dresses in gym class, full ballgowns, skiing gear, and tuxedos made for hilarious scenes around campus!

5.Friday: Green & Gold Day:

We closed out the week in classic Mustang fashion with a sea of Green and Gold to celebrate school pride!

A huge thank you to all the students and staff who participated and made the week so memorable!

The TV displays a microphone icon indicating it's still recording, illustrating the privacy concern that smart TVs may continue listening even when voice assistants appear to be turned off."

Tech Tip: Is Your TV Listening? 📺

Your TV might know more than your favorite streaming app—and that’s lowkey sus.

Recent news raised concerns that some LG smart TVs may keep recording conversations even after their AI voice assistant appears to be turned off. That means private chats near the TV could be collected or sent for processing longer than you expect. No cap: “off” should be checked, not assumed.

Protect your privacy:

Open your TV’s settings and turn off voice recognition, microphone access, and voice-data collection.

Check the privacy policy and permission settings after software updates.

If you’re having a private conversation, mute the TV or unplug it. Extra safe, fr.

Ask a trusted adult to help review settings, and remember: you’re in control of your tech. Stay curious, check the settings, and don’t let your devices be too nosy. 🔒
