We are beginning our third and final trimester of the 2024-2025 school year. It was great to connect with families at conferences to share your student's progress from the beginning of the year. We look forward to the continued growth in these final months of school. The staff at Farley Elementary appreciates the support shown by families through your involvement with conferences, supporting the PTO in snacks/food during conferences and your contribution at the book fair.

In these final months of school, we have many opportunities taking place for students. At the end of March, our third through fifth grade students will be participating in the ISASP testing which is our state assessment. We look forward to seeing the growth and knowledge students show on these yearly assessments. We will also have our music concert, grade-level field trips, field day and so many more traditions to finish off our year. We look forward to the experiences and memories we can provide at Farley Elementary.

ISASP Testing, grades 3rd - 5th

Our school will be administering the ISASP test for students in grades 3rd - 5th on April 1-4. Please mark your calendar to ensure your child:

  • gets a good night’s sleep
  • eats a healthy breakfast
  • present these days and on time for school - If absent, your child will be scheduled to take the test later.

What is the ISASP?

The Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) are assessments developed by Iowa Testing Programs at the University of Iowa for the state of Iowa. The assessments are aligned with the Iowa Core standards and provide a clear and accurate assessment of student learning outcomes. Student growth, proficiency and readiness indicators will be reported. Assessments will be given in the following areas: reading, language and writing, mathematics and science (grade 5 only).

Now that we are without snow, snow gear is no longer necessary; however, with warmer weather there are days cats are not necessary. If the temperature is below 40 degrees, students will be required to wear coats. So, until we are into consistent spring weather, please send coats to school with your student. Thank you!

Illness Illness

As we experience high levels of illness in schools, please follow the guidance on when to keep students home from school and for how long. Students frequently complain of different symptoms and it can be difficult to determine whether you should keep them home from school or send them. Below are some guidelines to help you determine what the best choice might be for your child…

  • Temperature: Per CDC guidelines, 100.4 degrees and above is considered a fever. Students should remain home until their temperature has been normal for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication (Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil).
  • Vomiting: Students should remain home until there has been no vomiting (without the use of medication) for 24 hours. Please make sure they can eat and drink without vomiting before returning to school.
  • Diarrhea: Please keep students' home until 24 hours after the last loose stool without the use of medication.
  • Coughing: This is most likely the hardest symptoms to determine as we all know a cough from bronchitis or a cold can last for weeks and we don’t want students out that long! If they feel okay and the cough is only occasional, then they can return to school. If they continue to have coughing episodes and have difficulty keeping them under control, please keep them home.
  • Pain: When a student complains of a sore knee or mild headache, it's just fine to give some Tylenol/Ibuprofen and send to school. Students who complain of pain which is more than mild or minor should stay at home to be monitored.
  • Strep Throat: If diagnosed with strep throat, student may return to school 24 hours after antibiotic are started if no fever is present.

We hope you find these guidelines helpful. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact me.

Mrs. Tara Noonan
