Thank you to all of you who joined us for such a special day! Be sure to take our feedback survey, linked below. Here's a recap!
A Culture of Unity
Chris Mominey emphasized that the culture of continuous improvement that is being established in the Diocese of Buffalo will result in change. But not simply for the sake of change, but for the sake of growth, innovation, and improvement! This work is not for the faint of heart so we are all challenged, teachers and administrators alike, to Lead As Jesus Did…And Then Some….

Grit in Education: The Psychological Resilience Critical for Success
Duncan Kirkwood delivered an inspiring and practical keynote that empowered educators to build grit, resilience, presence, and purpose. Drawing from his experience training soldiers in mental toughness, Duncan shared science-backed strategies to help educators transform challenges into opportunities for growth. Participants left with actionable tools to strengthen their presence, joy, and gratitude—fostering a more resilient mindset in themselves and their students.
The Power of Words
With Stephanie Genco Gasiecki, we looked at the power of our words—the ones we say in our heads, in the staffroom, and in the classroom. Together we practiced giving ourselves grace, building positive team culture, and using language that helps students feel seen and supported. We also learned the ABCD Framework for responding with empathy and clarity while keeping relationships strong. Want to dive deeper? Listen to Stephanie's podcast episode on the ABCD Framework for more examples and discussion.
Please take just a couple of minutes to complete our feedback survey!
You thoughts and ideas will help make future convocations meaningful.
We look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

Best Practice Spotlight: "Name It & Reframe It"
When students experience big emotions, help them label what they’re feeling. Neuroscience shows that naming emotions can reduce their intensity and help students regulate more easily. Try using simple prompts like:
- “It sounds like you’re feeling frustrated. Can we take a break together?”
- “I see you’re disappointed—want to talk about it?”
This small shift in language can make a big difference in emotional safety and classroom culture.

BEDS Report: Thank you for completing your NCEA Reports and making any requested corrections (now or after you receive your review from our office); now I recommend that you move on to your NYS BEDS report. Once you complete the Google Sheet using the instructions we provided to help you prepare for the NYS BEDS report based on your student and staff attendance from 10/1/2025, you should enter the information online by 11/14/2025 using the NYSED Business Portal. When you are ready to file your BEDS report with NYSED, go to “IRS Data Exchange” under “My Applications” (do not use “BEDS/IMF” – that only holds your archival data now). After the application loads, you should see “BEDS - Nonpublic Data Form” for “Collection Year” 2025-2026 as one of your choices on the new webpage. Once you click on it you should be able to enter your data using this form. NYSED will warn you if you enter some things incorrectly; if that happens, make the necessary corrections and then update your Google Sheet before emailing Steph to let her know that both your Google Sheet is complete and the NYSED form has been successfully submitted to NYSED.
Reminder: School Fire Safety Inspections must be completed Due by December 1 – Click here for the required "Nonpublic Fire and Building Safety Report" form to give to your inspector to complete and sign (from the Fire Safety Report webpage).

Fall sports are off to a great start. Soccer, Baseball, Volleyball, and Cross Country are coming to the end of their seasons, and preparations for Winter sports have already begun.
In the Winter, we will be offering boys and girls Basketball. The Fr. Schaus League is for students in grades K-6. Here is the information from League Director Dan Bryan:

Good morning ADs,
We are starting this now as gym time is always an issue, so please get as much gym time as you can available for the upcoming season. Here is the schedule we worked with the diocese on to be played this season. Practices may start as early as you want prior to games listed below. Based on gym availability, games are meant to be on Saturdays, but if we have limited time, JV games may be played during the week with Varsity games in the season.
The fee this year is increased to $300 per team.
In an effort to have a full schedule out early, I am asking for teams and gym times to be submitted no later than October 20th, 2025. I will send a link next week for registration for the league and include blackout dates. We have so many Saturdays, so if you have more than one blockout date be prepared to play a doubleheader on a weekend. 10 games for 3/4 and JV divisions, 8 games for K-2
Here is the target schedule:
Games Start – Saturdays Nov 8, 15, 22, Dec 6, 13, 20, Jan 10, 17, 24, 31, Feb 7, 14
