π¨ Week 2: Exploring the Element of Art β Line
βοΈ Learning About Line Variation
Students will practice and explore different types of lines, including:
- Thick and thin lines
- Organic and geometric lines
- Repeated lines and patterns
- Lines that show movement and texture
We will look at how famous artists use line in their artwork and discuss how artists make intentional choices to create meaning.
ποΈ Projects This Week: Turning Lines Into Artwork
Students will create an ocean wave drawing using black pen only. This project challenges students to use line instead of color to create depth, movement, and texture.
Students will practice:
- Creating different types of lines
- Showing movement through curved and flowing lines
- Using thick and thin lines for emphasis
- Adding details through repetition and pattern
- Demonstrating craftsmanship and attention to detail
Students will combine watercolor techniques and line design to create an abstract artwork. Students will first create watercolor drips and then use the negative spaces within the painting to add Zentangle-inspired patterns using Sharpie.
Students will explore:
- Abstract design
- Positive and negative space
- Repeated patterns
- Line variation
- Combining multiple art techniques
π Neurographic Doodle
As a supplemental project, students will create a neurographic-inspired drawing using organic, flowing lines. This project encourages students to experiment, make connections, and discover how simple lines can transform into complex designs.
Students will practice:
- Organic line creation
- Creative thinking
- Repetition and pattern
- Artistic decision-making
