Speaker: Dr. Gerald Sklare

Gerald B. Sklare, EdD, LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor), is author of Brief Counseling That Works, a best selling, "how to" book on solution-focused brief therapy, now in its 3rd edition (2014). Dr. Sklare received training in solution-focused therapy from the founders of the approach, Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg.

Oakland County School Counselor Workshop on Election Day!

The Oakland Counseling Association is thankful to work with Oakland Schools again this year to offer an amazing professional development opportunity on election day for school counselors throughout Oakland County. As in previous years, Oakland Schools, district superintendents, and school counselors have identified that access to relevant school counseling professional development is critical for our continued professional competency and growth.

This year, we are excited to have Dr. Sklare coming to facilitate this workshop on Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC). This approach to counseling is ideal for a school setting in that it focuses on student strengths, future solutions, and is time practical! From the OCA needs assessment survey last year, many of you indicated that you wanted strategies to "take home", that are realistic given our time and resource constraints, and that you can immediately add to your toolbox. We hope this workshop on Solution-Focused Brief Counseling is just that for you.
