November 4, 2024
Dear Dr. Green Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for a wonderful October month. We had incredible school activities for families, afterschool clubs, intramurals, cheer spirit, choir, to name some, ending with our Fall Festival and Red Ribbon week. Thank you for supporting your children and our school at all times. Let's welcome November and with that my heartfelt gratitude to all our families, PTA members, volunteers, teachers, staff and students.
Welcome Mr. Armando Llanos, our new Assistant Principal. Mr. Llanos comes with a vast of knowledge, passion for education and ready to be of service to our students and families.
Congratulations to our new School Secretary Ms. Savanna Ortega. Ms. Ortega worked at Murphree Middle School and brings much experience to Dr. Green and Dr. Green Montessori. Welcome Ms. Ortega!
School Targets- As previously mentioned in the last newsletter, we are working on strengthening academic skills in math, reading and science. Based on this, we began our afterschool tutoring this week. Tutoring is provided by some of our teachers. Teachers sent invitations for tutoring to selected students based on grades, last year's STAAR results, this year MAP results and class work. If you believe your child needs tutoring, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Attendance Goal: Higher than 96%.
We ended our first 9 weeks at 95%. However, the attendance has decreased in the past 3 weeks, since October 14th to 93%.
Please send your children to school daily. Every time they are absent they are missing on ongoing instruction.
Thanksgiving Feast:
We will have our Thanksgiving Lunch on November 14th. Tickets are on sale now for $8.00, please see the flyer below showing the lunch schedule for that day and the hours you can purchase your tickets. Please DO NOT delay in securing your tickets as per district's directive through our Food and Nutrition Services, no EXTRA tickets will be sold after November 12th or on the same day. Food and Nutrition Services will be selling only 2 tickets per household. We would like for everyone to have a positive experience while you join your children for lunch, you can help us by securing your tickets in advance.
We hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving week with your children and entire family. Thanksgiving is all about appreciating who and what you have around you, take all opportunities to thank them. If you are going out of town, please have safe travels. If you are staying in town, have lots of fun!
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me. You can stop me if you see me around the campus or you can email me at gpineda@episd.org. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you and your family.
I would like to close with this quote as our pledge to you:

Gifted and Talented Coordinator's Corner-Ms. Villanueva
Dear Parents,
Currently the district is working on an electronic assessment system to begin testing and identify any new gifted and talented students. Once we are notified by the district that the system is ready, we will assess all second grade students, all students who currently are not identified as GT but their MAP results are above 95% and any parent request to test. We will be sending more information as soon as we receive it.

Support Offered: Reading
This month we will focus on understanding character traits and feelings. Here are some questions to ask your child as you read together:
What things do you know about the character from the way he/she thinks or behaves?
How would you describe this character?
What values does the character stand for? What does the main character really want?
What lessons does the main character learn?
