End of Year Band Trip!
Claire DeSorgher and Gretchen Chomyn
On Wednesday, May 27th, the ⅞ band, orchestra, and chorus, as well as some other advanced 6th graders, took a trip to the Elly Long music center at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont, to be adjudicated by professional musicians. Lots of other schools like SATEC, Fairfield, Georgia, and Fairfax were there as well. The orchestra played first, performing two songs with SATEC and Fairfield, and then the band played two songs with Fairfield. Each group got feedback, and then the fun part of the day began, no offense, of course, to the adjudicators.
The Maple Run District music kids took buses to Spare Time Entertainment. They got to play in the arcade, enjoy games of laser tag, and bowl with their stomachs full of pizza, lemonade, and soda. The group spent about three hours at Spare Time before they got bused back to school. Though many say this trip wasn’t as legendary as the “New York Trip”, it was a great way to end the year and celebrate all the hard work music students at schools across the district have put into their instruments and voices. Younger kids will certainly look forward to the day when they get to experience this trip, too.
3rd-6th Structure Change FY 26-27:
Flag Retirement Ceremony:
June 12th, 11:00 am Mt. Calvary Cemetery
The 7th & 8th Grade Cadets in conjunction with the VFW and American Legion will be co-hosting a flag retirement ceremony. We have numerous boxes of old flags that have been prepared by students for a proper retirement. This is a solemn and dignified event. Ceremonies to retire a flag can differ from each other. The short ceremony will include a few words shared by the veterans, the National Anthem, the pledge of allegiance, taps, and an honor guard with a three rifle volley. The rifles will be fired as a part of the ceremony. There will be no fire onsite to dispose of the flags as there has been in the past. Instead the flags will be fired at a different site and the ashes will be disposed of properly.
Teknor Apex (Bikes For a Brighter Future)
On Thursday 5/28 Teknor Apex donated 20 bike packages (bike, helmet and a lock) to students at SACS. We appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity of Teknor Apex and look forward to our continued partnership with them!!
Step Up Day:
Library Book Returns:
The school year is nearing an end and many of you are still enjoying books from our library. It is so very important to have those returned so other students can share your same enjoyment for all those wonderful stories! Please help us by locating and returning any books you have checked out this year so the library can continue to support student interests in literature.
Thank You!
