Student Shout Outs
Each month we will recognize two students- one from the Pre-diploma students, and one from the Diploma students. Learn about these standout students and their studies!
Sarah Okome
(Grade 12) Sarah loves her English class because her favorite thing to do is read. She is leaning towards the IT field in the future and is keeping her options open for college choices.
Alex Coleman
(Grade 9) Alex loves AP Government because he loves history! The course is challenging and interesting so he's never bored. He plans to stay close to home for college but is keeping his options open for now. He plans to major in history or business.
Ms. Coleman says "Sarah tries hard each and every day. She takes diligent notes, participates in discussions, and messages any questions to ensure she is always learning her best."
Ms. Vanmeter says "Alex is diligent in completing his work and insightful in his analysis of text. He has shown the learner profile traits of being a good communicator both in speaking and writing and he has shown the ATL skill of critical thinking in his in depth analysis of text. I really enjoy having him in class. "
Community Service
Socktober runs til the end of the month. Purchase funky socks to help WeHelpTwo to purchase prosthetic limbs for those who cannot afford them.
Donations- Snacks!
We are in the planning stages of our IB Thanksgiving activity. If you can donate snacks for our group event please send them in to 117- IB Office. We are planning different activities around the learner profile, ATL (Approaches to learning) skills, international mindedness, and team building.
College Visits
I have submitted paperwork for our first college visits which are coming up in November to Towson and Stevenson. Keep an eye out in homerooms for permission slips and details. We can only take 30 students on each trip so return the slips quickly. Both of these schools accept the IB diploma for 30 credits and allow students to begin as sophomores.
Recruitment!
Do you know someone who may be a good fit for the program but they haven't joined yet? Let them know that the magnet application is open and they can apply now until November 5. If you have questions see Ms. Forman in the IB office 117.
Check out our new website for general information as well as alumni stories.
