We Are Ready For Take Off!
First Day is Tuesday, August 13th!
Dear BES Families,
Thank you for coming to our Back-to-School Night and Community Fair - we had a great turn-out!
Here are a few reminders as we begin our first week! Don't forget to look at our Facebook page for our Broadmoor Breakdown messages - videos explaining everything BES!
Mornings
Our doors open to the foyer at 7am. Students can get into the commons at 7:30am. If you drop off before 7:30am, we do not have supervision available. However, they can sit inside the foyer. If your student is eating breakfast, we advise you have them here at 7:30am. The first bell rings at 7:55 and the teachers will be picking them up from the gym and getting the day started. We have fun mornings, so you do not want them to miss out!
Also, if you arrive at 8am or later, you will have to come inside with your student to sign them in. If a student arrives late, we will call parents to return to the school to sign them in.
Being late to school is like being late to work - it's not good!
Please let us know how we can help you to be on time each and every day!
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
The first week or so it is extremely busy and everyone is worried - don't be! We will be out there guiding you through our parking lot. Please just watch for little ones, stay off your phones, and be patient. If you are picking up at one of the other buildings, do no worry if you are running behind. We will hold onto your little ones until you arrive. It is more important that you arrive safely than on time!
If you need to make changes to after-school plans, please call the OFFICE. Do not only let the teacher know. Often teachers may be absent or not see their emails and miss the notice. You must call 837.1900 or email: broadmoor@usd416.org to let us know in the office.
Students cannot ride home with friends on the bus unless they are riders on the same route. Our buses are full and we cannot allow extra riders without transportation applications and information to ride on routes.
Drop-Off
Drop-off of all students will still take place along the east side of BES. Students should exit their parents’ vehicle along the front sidewalks, from the BES front door all the way to the playground. Once your child has exited, please check for traffic and pull out to exit the lot. You do not need to wait in the line. We have adults out there to make sure kids get into school safely! At the corner of the drop-off line, on the SE corner, be sure that both lines of traffic come to a stop as a new crosswalk will be at the stop sign going east and west. You may then exit to South 5th Street or to Metcalf.
Pick-Up for 3rd/4th
All 3rd and 4th grade students will exit the south doors.
We encourage you to not park and walk up to meet your child. If you do, we ask that you model safe pedestrian practices and cross at a crosswalk. Do not walk with your children in between vehicles.
It is easy to stay in your vehicle and go through the line. Once everyone gets the hang of it, the pick-up takes about 10 minutes!
Vehicles need to line up at the very front of the drive-thru lane at the SW side of BES. This line will wrap around to the east side of the building. When your child is safely in your vehicle, please check for traffic and then pull around the line to exit the lot. You do not need to wait in line. You may then exit to South 5th Street or to Metcalf.
Pick-Up for 5th
All 5th grade students and walkers/bike riders will exit the front doors of BES.
5th grade vehicles are asked to pull into the lot east of BES. Please try to park along the sidewalk so that students do not have to walk through the parking lot. Students will be brought over to you. You may then exit at the south end of the lot, near the soccer fields.
If you have a 3rd/4th grader AND a 5th grader: The 3rd/4th grader will walk from the south end to meet the 5th grader at the flag pole area and then cross with other 5th graders to your vehicle.
Walkers/Bike Riders
Due to traffic and safety concerns, all walkers or bike riders are encouraged to only cross at the marked crosswalks that have crossing guards. This is at the corner of 5th and Metcalf, at the west end exit of the BES lot, at the 5th street entrance to BES, and at the south end of the BES parking lot. Please walk the route with your students prior to the first day of school so that they understand the safest route to take each day.
Reminders:
1. Please do not ask your child to walk up to 5th street to get into your vehicle. This is not permitted.
2. Please park or line-up in the areas we have asked you to and do not try to cut in front of others.
3. If you ask your children to wait for you at the playground, understand we will not be supervising that area after school.
4. Please share procedures and policies with anyone picking up your children.
Glow Bash
Each year we have a fun event that helps us raise money for all of our fun at BES! This includes special activities like our Super Bowl party, field trip expenses, incentives and prizes for our students, and more! On Back-to-School night, you will receive information and a packet for donations. We ask that students ask for donations and return the envelope to school before or on the evening of our event, September 7th. That night, we will take over the Wildcat Stadium with music, games, and dancing! We will have food trucks available for you and tons of awesome Glow Bash Gear! It's a really fun night!
School Supplies
The School Supply list is below. If your family is in need of assistance with supplies, please give us a call! We have many resources for all supplies from backpacks to glue sticks to new shoes!
We are WILDCAT READY to have the very best year! See you Tuesday!

Pedestrian Crosswalk at 68 Highway and Aquatic Drive
As you have probably seen, there is a new pedestrian crosswalk and beacon being installed at 68 Highway and Aquatic Drive. It will be a similar beacon and crosswalk that is in place on South Metcalf, by Ron Weers Park. There have been some installation delays so it will not be installed when school begins. We will have a school staff member out at the crosswalk and the city is working on some temporary signage. The hope is to have the crosswalk fully functional by the end of August.
We urge extreme caution at this crosswalk until it is fully functional.

Attendance and School Calendars
Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.
Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!
If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.
GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!
