Our Mission
Empower every learner for future success
by ensuring an innovative, impactful, and inclusive
educational journey.
Safety is Always our Priority
On Thursday, our district successfully completed our offsite evacuation drill, and I want to begin by thanking our students, staff, families, the Germantown Fire Company #1, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, and our community partners for their cooperation and support. The drill went smoothly, and the preparation, patience, and teamwork demonstrated by everyone involved made all the difference.
I recognize that a drill of this nature can be inconvenient for families. Adjusting schedules, arranging student pickups, and changing afternoon routines takes time and planning. I sincerely appreciate your willingness to partner with us because the purpose of this drill extends far beyond checking a box on a safety checklist.
In the wake of the recent school shooting in Oregon, we are reminded that school safety must remain at the forefront of our work and our priorities. While we hope we never have to respond to a real emergency of this nature, we have a responsibility to prepare for the unexpected. It is not enough to know how to evacuate a building; we must also practice how to safely reunite students with their families, coordinate transportation, communicate clearly, and work together under challenging circumstances. Today's drill allowed us to practice those critical steps in a controlled setting, identify opportunities to strengthen our procedures, and build confidence in our ability to respond when it matters most.
Thank you for trusting us with your children each day and for helping us make Germantown CSD a safer, stronger, and more prepared school community. We will continue to review our practices, learn from each experience, and make student and staff safety a priority in every decision we make.
Together, we are committed to ensuring that our school remains a place where every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn. Thank you again for all you do each day to support our learners and staff. We hope to see everyone at our Trunk or Treat event tomorrow, sponsored by our amazing PTSA!
Our Capital Project
Groundwork prepared for the Maintenance Addition
Final Layer being placed on the Auditorium Stage
The Auditorium Stage is currently being rebuilt after the summer storm damage. They will be finishing the work this week to allow the Jr. Drama Club to continue their rehearsals onstage for the December 4th and 5th production of The Lion King, Jr.
The Weight Room is expected to be completed in the next several weeks and will offer our students a wide array of modern exercise equipment.
The Maintenance Area and the Jr./Sr. High School Library are still works in progress with an anticipated completion date of January 1st.
The hallway ramps, which will replace the chair lifts, will be completed within the next month as well.
Once all the work is complete, we will be hosting tours of the building so that any interested community member is able to see the updates completed to ensure the safety and continued learning of our students.
Learning Happens Here
Preparing Our Students for the Future: NY Inspires & Portrait of a Graduate
What does it mean to be prepared for life after graduation? New York State’s NY Inspires initiative encourages schools to rethink how we prepare students for success in an ever-changing world. At the heart of this work is the Portrait of a Graduate—a vision of the knowledge, skills, and attributes students should develop throughout their educational journey to thrive in college, careers, and life. At Germantown, this work connects directly to our commitment to developing future-ready learners. As we explore what this means for our district, we look forward to engaging our families and community in shaping the experiences and opportunities that will prepare every Clipper to progress confidently toward their future. In this newsletter, I will share initiatives we are working on within the district and further guidance we are receiving from the state. We continue to center our faculty conversations around this topic at every opportunity.
