Little Trojan News
Centerburg Elementary Newsletter - September 2025
From the Principal - Mr. Thompson
Please check PowerSchool often to keep informed of you child's progress in each of his/her classes. If you need help logging in to PowerSchool, please contact the school.
*Parents please send a note in the planner or to attendance.el@centerburgschools.org for any and all going home changes. After school activities have begun and we need a note if your child is staying after school. One note for the season/year of the activity is all that is necessary. We do not always get a roster of students staying after school from the advisors/coaches.*
Car Loop - Please make sure that you are not blocking the bus loop driveways when waiting in the car loop and the driveways. Let cars in and out of handicap parking spaces. No need to come an hour before dismissal. The whole dismissal process is done in 15 minutes.
Welcome New Staff!
My name is Chelsea Hosfelt, and I am the new Elementary Administrative Assistant. I am also attending Ohio University's College of Business for Business Studies. I have two wonderful daughters: a junior who is at the Career Center for Health Technology and a preschooler who makes me laugh and keeps me busy!
Outside of work and school, I love to spend time with my family. Fall is my favorite season, and I enjoy baking, watching movies, and crafting. I also love a good thunderstorm, the color purple, and traveling. Spur of the moment adventures are some of my favorite adventures! I am very excited to be here and getting to know everyone!
Student Council
Recess supplies
Student Council purchased “tubs of fun” as Mrs. Wright has named the totes full of new recess engagement. The totes given to each grade contains footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, and chalk.
Teachers and students have been grateful for having more to play with at recess. Teachers have stated how it has solved many small issues on the playground. There have been more groups playing together, more exercise, and lots of smiles.
School Social Work Corner - Mrs. Bowdre
Calling 2-1-1
A call to 2-1-1 connects people in Knox and Licking Counties with needed services in the community, as well as information about those services. 2-1-1 provides access to agencies for those who are not sure how to find the help or information they need. This free service provides confidential 24/7 access to social service information while saving 9-1-1 for emergencies.
When a call comes into the center, 2-1-1 staff work to explore the feelings and needs of the client, build rapport, and explore alternatives that are available to them. Once the basic need of the call is established, staff then make referrals to the nearest services available for them and document the client’s information, including age, zip code, household income level, and more.

Happenings in the Classroom
Mrs. Thompson's Science class
We learned about what scientists do, and took a walking field trip around the building making observations of things we wanted to know more about! We then invited Mr. Gallwitz and Mr. Thompson into our classroom to answer a few questions we formed from our observations. We continued looking at what scientists do and some of the tools that they use.
Art
The first art project of the year was making a school wide mural. The students used primary colors (red, blue, yellow) with lines and shapes on a post it note that was then put together for a mural.
5th Grade went to the Memorial Theatre
The Youth Enrichment Series (YES) concerts are offered annually through the county. 5th grade saw Eric Patton a world class drummer. Selected 5th graders got to drum along with him on stage and so did our 5th grade teachers.
