Maddie’s Mitten March – Student Council Winter Warmth Drive Maddie’s Mitten March – Student Council Winter Warmth Drive

From December 8–19, Student Council is proud to support Maddie’s Mitten March, a local effort dedicated to keeping our community safe and warm during the coldest months. This annual initiative collects winter clothing and monetary donations, which are distributed directly to individuals in need and through partner organizations across Kane County—and, when resources allow, throughout Illinois.

With the help of two “Mitten March” buses that serve as mobile collection and distribution hubs, volunteers gather donations through clothing drives, outreach events, and community drop-offs. We are collecting new or gently used winter items for both children and adults, including:

  • Gloves and Mittens

  • Hats

  • Scarves

  • Coats

  • Snow Pants

  • Snow Boots

Your generosity helps provide warmth, dignity, and security to underprivileged individuals in our area. Thank you for joining us in supporting this meaningful cause!

A note from the School Nurse A note from the School Nurse

Cold and Flu season is upon us once again. Preventative measures remain the most effective way to reduce the spread of influenza and other viral illnesses. Please review healthy hygiene habits with your student, such as hand washing and keeping hands away from their nose/mouth while at school.

Absences from School

Report all absences to the attendance line. Please provide reason for absences and whether or not your child has a communicable or contagious illness.

Keep a child home from school when:

• Your child has had a fever of 100 degrees F or more within the past 24 hours

• Your child has had vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours

• Your child has an unexplained rash, sore or pink eyes with a discharge

• Your child has a persistent, productive cough

** Your child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school

** If a bacterial infection has been diagnosed, your child must have 24 hours of antibiotics before returning to school

** If your child has not fully recovered or remained home for the recommended length of time, parents may be contacted and asked to take the child home.

Extended Absences: Extended absences of 5 or more days may require that the student present a doctor's statement of re-admittance to the school nurse. For further information on childhood illnesses and diseases please go to Health Information on the D303 website, or contact your school nurse directly at: cor-nurses@d303.org
