Halloween at Thomson! 👻🎃 Halloween at Thomson! 👻🎃

October is here so that can only mean one thing.....HALLOWEEN!

We will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 23rd, our last day of school before Intersession I. To ensure that everyone enjoys this very exciting day please carefully read the important information that follows.

Costumes: Thomson Elementary is home to nine kindergarten classes, five DK classes and a preschool class. Because we have such young students in our building, it is important that Halloween be celebrated in a kid-friendly manner. When selecting a costume for your child to wear to school please keep in mind the following guidelines.

  • Keep costumes kid-friendly/not scary
  • No blood/gore/weapons
  • No costume masks for safety sake. Please keep masks at home.

If you are unsure about whether or not a costume is kid-friendly please contact your child's teacher or the office.

Classroom Parties: Most parties will be held in the afternoon but some teachers, due to specials, will choose to celebrate in the morning. Your child's teacher will have more information coming to you soon!

Due to food allergies, we ask that you do not send any food or treats that are not cleared by the classroom teacher in advance. Every Thomson student is precious and we want to protect our students with serious allergies. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Due to security and limited space we are limiting the number of parent volunteers. Teachers will select party helpers in the next few weeks. Parents attending class parties should follow the same costume guidelines as the students if they choose to dress in costume.

Halloween Parade: Everyone is welcome to attend our annual Halloween Parade! The parade will be held on October 23rd at 9:30 a.m. It will take place on the sidewalk inside the fenced-in playground.

Due to the outdoor location, the parade is weather permitting. We, unfortunately, cannot control the weather, and the parade will be cancelled if conditions are inclement.

Guests are welcome to park in any parking lot and stand along the outside of the fence to watch our Thomson Teddies proudly parade in their costumes. Staff members will be outside to assist and direct you as you arrive.

Fun to Be Fit! ⚽🏀🏈

Thank you to all the parents and volunteers who helped, donated, or shared our Thomson walk-a-thon fundraiser! The students loved using the high school track, and it was a fun day for everyone.

As we look ahead, please keep the following updates in mind:

  • Footwear: Proper athletic shoes are essential for physical education to ensure student safety.

  • Weather & Clothing: With temperatures fluctuating over the next month, please send your child dressed in layers to accommodate cool mornings and warmer afternoons.

  • Upcoming Activities: Students will be playing soccer outside before finishing the month with cardio drumming and Halloween-themed games!

Remember: a body in motion stays in motion!

Happy Reading!📚📖📘

Welcome to October! As the air turns crisp and the leaves change, we are gearing up for a fantastic month in the library.

Here is what we are reading this month:

  • The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams: We will bring this story to life using interactive sound effects, like clapping our hands and stomping our feet!

  • The Monster at the End of This Book by Jon Stone: One of my personal favorites growing up! The kids always love sharing stories about their family favorites—what was your favorite book as a child?

  • Fright Club by Ethan Long: We’ll introduce these fun, spooky characters who also make a return appearance in Long's Thanksgiving book, Fangsgiving.

Library Reminders:

  • Please remind your child to return their library book each week so they can check out a new one. We will not be checking out books the week before break.

  • Monday: Mrs. Williams, Ms. Waite, Mrs. Frase
  • Tuesday: Ms. Simms, Mrs. Smith
  • Wednesday: Mrs. Schawb, Ms. Seeley, Ms. Wheeler
  • Thursday: Mrs. Romanik, Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Ruzicka
  • Friday: Mrs. Tober, Mrs. Driskill, Ms. Harmon

💻 STEM Class!

Hello Thomson Families,

This month in STEM, our students read If I Built a House by Chris Van Dusen, a fun story about a boy named Jack who imagines his dream home. We discussed how building and engineering play a major role in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

To put these ideas into action, the students created their own designs using block STEM bins and built virtually on PBS Kids.

A Note on Headphones: If your child would like to bring their own headphones for STEM day, please send in a corded set (that plugs directly into their Chromebook) in a labeled ziplock bag with their name and room number. If they don't have a pair to bring, no worries—I have a class set available for student use!

It has been a fantastic first month in STEM class!

Parent/Teacher Conferences with Specials Teachers Parent/Teacher Conferences with Specials Teachers

Dear Thomson Families,

In addition to meeting with your child’s classroom teacher during Parent-Teacher conferences on either October 14th or October 15th, you will also have an opportunity to meet with their other teachers. This includes Mrs. Lints (Physical Education), Ms. Lockrey (STEM), and Mr. Romanik (Music). At these conferences you will have the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress in these “special” classes.

If you are interested in meeting with and talking with any or all of your child’s specials’ teachers, please sign up for a time slot using the links provided below. Each slot is 15 minutes long. Please note that Ms. Lockrey has limited availability at Thomson since she also works at Central Elementary.

There are not enough time slots for the teachers to meet with all Thomson students, so please be sure to sign up sooner rather than later if you are interested. Any leftover time slots will be available at Thomson Elementary for “walk-in” conferences with Mrs. Lints and Mr. Romanik..

Thank you!
