Back-to-School Guide
Welcome to the 2025-26 school year! To help students and families find the information and resources they need to have a successful school year, Gwinnett County Public Schools created the GCPS Back-to-School Guide. Find everything you need for a great year of learning!
GCPS Highlights
What Is E-SPLOST?
You may hear more this fall about something called E-SPLOST, but what is it? E-SPLOST stands for Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. It’s a one-cent sales tax that helps fund school buildings, buses, classroom technology, safety upgrades, and more.
This November, Gwinnett voters will decide whether to continue this one-cent sales tax. E-SPLOST has been in place since 1997 and helps make sure GCPS schools stay modern, safe, and ready for students. Visit our website for more details on our Capital Plan and for more information about how we use E-SPLOST funds in GCPS.

Safety & Security Updates
Evolv Weapons Detection System Coming to GCPS Middle and High Schools
The health and safety of GCPS students and staff is our highest priority. With the Board of Education's approval at its July 17, 2025, meeting, GCPS will purchase and install Evolv weapons detection systems in all of our middle and high schools.
How to Get Involved
GCPS Launches New Family Advisory Council
Gwinnett County Public Schools is proud to announce the launch of its new Districtwide Family Advisory Council (FAC), a group designed to elevate the voices of parents and guardians from across the district. Beginning in September 2025, this council will bring together selected representatives from each Board district, as well as parent leaders from across GCPS, to advise the district on key issues such as academic programs, school safety, family engagement, and budget priorities.
Learn more and view the meeting schedule at www.gcpsk12.org/FAC.
More ways to stay informed and involved...
Attend your school's Open House
Your school's scheduled Open House is a great time to visit with your student. Meeting teachers and support staff, and helping your student learn their way around the school will get the school year off to a smooth start.
Get involved in your Local School Council
Plan to join your Local School Council. Families are welcome to share their voices and get involved with volunteer opportunities. Local School Councils meet four or more times per year in each learning community.
Community members can join ParentSquare to receive district messages
Our GCPS Community Groups on ParentSquare connect members of the community who do not have students active in the district with news and updates from GCPS. Students, staff, and families can also opt-in to our community groups based on their interest. Learn more about Community Groups.
GEMS Committee application
GCPS is inviting parents and guardians, community members, and school district employees to apply for the GEMS Oversight Committee, a group of community and school system representatives who perform the annual review of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum standards. Those interested in serving should complete the online application by August 8.
August 4, 2025 is the first day of the 2025-26 school year for all grades!
