Annual Stakeholder Survey

Every year parents are asked to fill out the PCS Stakeholder Survey. You can find the link to the survey in your e-mail, as the district sent a link all parents. The link can also be found on the district website at www.pcsb.org/survey. We truly appreciate your time in completing the survey. The information collected helps not only Cypress Woods, but the district, meet the needs of all our students. This is your opportunity to tell us what you love about Cypress Woods and give us feedback.

The survey closes on 2/16. Thank you!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

When a student is absent from school for any reason, parents are to send in a written note to the teacher explaining the absence or email the school at cypresswoodses.absence@pcsb.org and copy the teacher on the email. Absences will remain unexcused until such documentation is received by the school. Children with poor attendance patterns may be referred to the Pinellas County Truancy Intervention Program. Class work is required to be made up during or after an excused absence. Upon returning to school following an excused absence, a student has as many days to make up the work as days absent. A doctor’s note is required to excuse a student from PE for more than 3 days and documentation is required for absences exceeding 5 days.

Updates from Mrs. Shipley!!

Hi Volunteers!

I hope this email finds you well. Thank you to all those volunteers who have entered their volunteer hours so far. We are happy to report we have recorded 3942 hours so far this year! If you have not yet entered your volunteer hours, please do so. Every hour counts (PTA, SAC, Classroom, Lunch Pals, Field Trips, Volunteer Café, helping form home, etc.) This data is shared with the Florida Department of Education and shows the community involvement at our school and supports our volunteer program initiatives. The date of the volunteering is not as important as the hours themselves, you can log them all under the current date in one chunk if the activity is the same, otherwise make multiple entries based on the activity. I have attached instructions to the volunteer system that include the web page address and the login format. Please contact me if you need assistance logging your hours.

All About Field Trips: Teachers will let you know if/when there is a field trip and ask for chaperones. Please note, some field trips restrict the number of chaperones, your child’s teacher will let you know if you have been selected. All chaperones must be registered volunteers and have an active status. If you have never registered to volunteer, you may do so at www.pcsb.org/volunteerregistration. The registration will generate a free district background check for a Level 1 status and usually takes up to 5 business days, you will receive a system generated email once you have been approved to volunteer. If you have already registered to volunteer but have not reactivated for this school year, you will need to log into the volunteer system and answer the reactivation questions. Please see the attached instructions that include the volunteer system web address and your login format. DO NOT use a phone or skip questions as this will place you on hold. The system works best on a PC.

Level 2 Information:

Many field trips and volunteer opportunities require Level 2 screenings if you will be separated from a staff member during the field trip or activity. This is an extra level of background check that requires fingerprinting that costs a fee and last for 5 years. Please follow this link for more information about our approved Level 2 fingerprint vendors: www.pcsb.org/Level2 You will also find a waver that should be downloaded, completed, and returned to me for our files. You must obtain your Level 1 & reactivated approval before going for your Level 2. The district does not notify me when volunteers are upgraded to Level 2, so you will need to follow up with me about 1 week after you get fingerprinted. Then we can arrange for you to get a Level 2 badge and complete some forms required by the district.

CWE needs more Lunch Pal mentors, especially male volunteers! Lunch pals meet with a student who may be struggling at school or home, or they simply need extra attention from another caring adult in their life. They meet once a week during the student’s 30-minute lunch period. Please follow this link to learn about this program and sign up for the free district training to become a Lunch Pal mentor: www.pcsb.org/mentor

A message from our PTA: We need YOU!

This year's Eagle Fest will be on Saturday, April 12th 3-6pm. We need help locating & putting together donations and baskets. On the day of the event, it will be all hands-on deck....we will need volunteers for tickets/armbands, bounce houses, food & other activities. Level 1 and Level 2 volunteers may help depending on the task.

A new session of after school clubs will start the week of February 3rd . Unfortunately, due to a lack of volunteers we are no longer able to offer CHESS club or WELLNESS club or any other potential new clubs for the second session. If you are a Level 2 volunteer that is willing to help lead either of these clubs, we would love to have them! The GARDEN club would also appreciate additional parent volunteers each week.

Thank you!
