From the Principal
Dear SHS Families,
We are excited to offer two opportunities for students to get the extra support they need to wrap up the semester successfully! These opportunities also align with our School Mission, Portrait of an SHS Graduate, and Beyond High School Campaign, ensuring that every student is well-prepared to succeed after high school. Below is a reminder of the information I sent out on Sunday:
First Opportunity:
- When: Wednesday, 1/22
- Time: 3:05–4:10 PM
- Where: Teacher Classrooms
- What: Focused study time with teachers and peers plus free cookies and hot chocolate! This session is perfect for completing assignments before the late homework deadline on Thursday, 1/23.
Second Opportunity:
- When: Friday, 1/24
- Time: 1:30–2:45 PM
- Where: Teacher Classrooms
- What: Focused study and preparation for finals plus free cookies and hot chocolate! Bring your friends, study materials, and let’s ace those exams together!
Please note that cookies and hot chocolate will only be served to students who present a pass signed by a teacher they worked with.
We look forward to seeing students take full advantage of these opportunities!
Sincerely,
Principal da Silva

Martin Luther King Celebration
Celebrating Dr. King’s Legacy: A Recap of the MLK Celebration
For those unable to attend, the annual MLK Celebration was a resounding success, with a packed Commons filled with energy, inspiration, and community. Below are the welcome remarks delivered by José.
"A heartfelt thank you to the organizing committee, the judges of the contest entries, our talented students, guest performers, and the custodian team and volunteers for their invaluable efforts in setting up, taking down, and reorganizing the space. Your dedication and contributions are deeply appreciated."
"Today marks the 27th year that we celebrate Dr. King’s legacy. This year's theme, Peace = Justice, draws inspiration from his impactful words: ‘True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice,’ an excerpt from his 1958 book Stride Toward Freedom."
"Dr. King’s vision reminds us that peace is active, rather than passive, and that the tireless work to ensure fair treatment and access to basic rights and the pursuit of peace are one and the same."
"May this celebration inspire us to be ambassadors of peace and justice in Springfield and beyond."
The event concluded with memorable performances and reflections, led by our emcees Lina Nyamute and Leila Kammerzelt-Murphy.
Congrats!
