Eastwood Elementary Update

August, 2025

Eastwood ElementaryUpdateAugust, 2025

Welcome Back!!

We are very excited to begin the new school year!! We can't wait to see the students and get to know them and hear about their summer adventures! School begins on Tuesday, August 26th for all students in grades 1-5. Kindergarten has a staggered start( see below.)

As always, if you have questions or are not sure about something, please don't hesitate to contact us at 419.833.2821 or 419.287.3200

Open House

We will hold our Open House on Monday, August 25th. Our kindergarten through second grades will be from 5:45-6:45. Our third through fifth grades will be from 7:00-8:00. We try to put a 15-minute gap between the grade bands so that after the first session is over, you can leave before the second wave of families come in. If you have children in both groups, come towards the end of the first group and then stay for the second group. If you have transportation questions, go to the gym, as the bus drivers will be there to answer questions.

Staggered Start for Kindergarten Students

Our incoming kindergarten students will run on a staggered start schedule for the first 3 days of the school year. This means that your child will only come to school for the block of time that was listed in your welcome letter. If there is a question, please contact the office and we will let you know the time you were given. Remember that for your child's time, you will drive them to and from school, no bus service is available during the staggered start days. The staggered start is for Aug. 26, 27, and 28th.

All kindergarten students will attend starting on Friday, August 29th, and regular busing will begin.

New Members of Our Family

“Hello! My name is Kelsey Herrick and I’m thrilled to be joining the Eagle family as a first-grade teacher. This will be my sixth year teaching first-grade. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Inclusive Early Childhood Education from Bowling Green State University and recently completed my master’s degree in Educational Technology at Kent State University. I love creating engaging, hands-on lessons that support all learning styles! I also enjoy incorporating technology such as robotics and coding into the classroom to spark curiosity and critical thinking.

Outside of school, I enjoy reading, trying new recipes, and spending time with my family and friends. I am so excited to be part of this wonderful community, and I’m looking forward to a fun and rewarding year ahead with the Eastwood Eagles! “

Warm Regards,

Kelsey

Picture Day has changed

You now have the opportunity to bring in your child to have their picture taken. We will have a photographer available in the gym for pictures. You can bring in your child on Monday, August 18th from 7:30-6:00 and on Tuesday, the 19th, you can come from 7:30-3:00. There will be a photographer in the gym. If you can not come in on either of those days, your child will have their picture taken on Wednesday, November 12th.

On picture day you can also pick up supply boxes, if you ordered them through the PTO. You can also stop in the office to pay school fees.

Morning safety procedure

We will continue to look at the safety and security procedures of our building but would ask our parents to stop at the front doors when walking students up in the morning. If you have questions for a teacher, please stop in the office first to notify the teacher and to get a badge to be able to walk to the room. If you are stopped by a staff member, please remember that the staff member is following safety protocols that have been put in place and are not trying to inconvenience you.

I know the kindergarten parents may want to walk them down to the classroom, but after the first full week, please try to stop at the front doors and we can have safety patrol staff walk the students to the room. Our older students know the building and can walk to their rooms.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up

Morning Car Drop Off

We would prefer that you drop your child/children off between 8:35 and 8:45 if possible. The morning drop-off will be very similar to past years. If you are dropping students off in the car line, you should have your students get out anywhere along the sidewalk so that multiple cars are having students exit at all times (instead of waiting until you are the front car to have your child get out). If you are parking in the parking lot and walking your child to the sidewalk or all the way to the front doors, please use the painted crosswalk that aligns with the sidewalk in front of the building. School begins at 8:55.

Afternoon Car Pick-up

We will continue to use the Pikmykid program for dismissal. Every family will receive 2 decals that have a name and number on them to use if they are picking up their child. Some of you won't use the program as your child will ride the bus, but if you are planning on picking up your child after school, please place the card in the front window area and fill out the app to help notify us. We will be sending home important information on this program to everyone.

Counselor's Corner

Please look through the information shared by our counselors.

Afternoon Dismissal

We will be dismissing all car pick-up and after-school Stars students at 3:25 this year to go to the cafeteria for dismissal.

All bus riding students will be dismissed at 3:33 as all buses should be here for pick up.

These times are a few minutes later than last year, but we are trying to keep as much academic time as possible for our students.

School Bus Transportation

Parents of students riding the bus should be able to see their bus information on Aug. 13th, in the afternoon.
