Principal's Wave
Happy Holiday Weekend MES Families!
Last week, our first full week was highlighted by two very well attended events! We had a great turnout for our TK-1 Back to School Night, and an impressive showing at Friday's Family Picnic event! This shows the dedication and support of our families as we welcome one another to the 2025-26 school year!
This Tuesday, we welcome our 2nd-5th grade parents to their Back to School Night. It will be a minimum day so that teachers can prepare. Our teachers are excited to share with you what the year ahead will hold for your child!
Made possible by our amazing PTA, Malibu Elementary is excited to launch our FALL session of Sea Lion Academy! This after- school program offers amazing courses designed to elevate thinking and enrich learning for all of our students. REGISTRATION CLOSES TUESDAY! See information below for more details and to sign up your child!

Sea Lion Academy
Our amazing PTA helped support the launch of our Sea Lion Academy last year and it's BACK! With their support, Malibu Elementary is excited to launch our FALL session of Sea Lion Academy! This after- school program offers amazing courses designed to elevate thinking and enrich learning for all of our students. Classes begin after Labor Day. There are limited spaces and they will fill up quickly, so be sure to enroll your child today HERE. ENROLLMENT CLOSES TUESDAY, SEPT. 2nd FOR OUR FALL SESSION!
Parent Square Communication
Did you know that you can receive information that is on Parent Square at different times? If you go into the Parent Square app or find it on a computer, you can change the settings to determine how you receive school wide information. You can get it on the spot, or can opt for a "digest" version, which comes to you at 6pm. Please note that as a sender, if we feel that a message is time sensitive, we can override the digest choice and send immediately to all.
Join the PTA!
The simple act of joining the PTA provides instant financial support for our students! It's also a great way to stay informed about what's happening at school, and connect in meaningful ways with other parents. https://www.malibuelementary.org/membership

Student Birthday Parties (from the Parent Handbook)
Such observances must be coordinated with the classroom teacher and should occur after lunch or at the end of the day. Food may be distributed at school. Healthier options should be encouraged. Cakes or very sweet treats (Sugar-based foods) are NOT allowed. All-natural popsicles are the ONLY choice for birthday celebrations. Our SMMUSD Food and Nutrition Services Wellness Policy calls for staff to limit student consumption of sugar at school. No nuts, if there is a peanut allergy in the classroom. Party favors are ok to distribute. Birthday invitations for parties away from school may not be distributed unless every student in the class is invited.

5th Grade Pali Camp Overnight Field Trip - Donations Needed
We are excited for our 2025-2026 5th grade class to again have the opportunity to attend outdoor school in October 2025. Outdoor school is perhaps the greatest highlight of elementary school for many students and is a sort of rite-of-passage. We are asking 5th grade parents to donate now so that we may make our next installment payment.
All or None
If we don’t raise enough funds for ALL students to participate, we will ask the PTA to fund the difference. If there is not enough available funds or support from PTA, then the trip will be canceled; we will refund all donations but lose our original PTA deposit. Also, to help prevent canceling the trip, any families who won’t be able to voluntarily contribute the full $560 will be asked what if anything they can donate. Perhaps $300, $200 or $50? Anything helps. Finally if there are families who would like to cover another student, we will accept donations above and beyond $560.
