8th Grade Move up Night and Course Selection Fair
Our Open House was full last Wednesday night! Thank you to our staff, students, and our Spartan community who attended and helped answer questions and share their Scituate high school experiences. Each display table looked amazing, and it was clear that our students and staff worked hard to put their tables together. It's easy to have Spartan Pride with such a supportive school community!

From ELA
Freshmen in Mrs. Stormont's English classes wrestled with writing song lyrics and iambic pentameter as part of their Romeo and Juliet study.
From Culinary Arts
The International Foods students completed learning about Ukraine customs and cuisine last week preparing Ukrainian pancakes and fried cookies. This week students traveled to Italy, a favorite cuisine. They prepared homemade pasta using Kitchen Aid
Mixer attachments. All agreed it taste so much better than box products!
Family Consumer Science at the Course Selection Fair
FACS students shared experiences about the various classes offered at the course selection fair. The event was well attended and Mrs. Morton reminisced with many past students who now have students attending the high school.
From Social Studies
A huge thank you to Senator Jack Reed for paying his annual visit to Ms. Grundt's AP US Government and Politics class. He thoroughly explained how Congressional Committees appropriate funding for R.I. He answered student questions ranging from what it is like to visit global hotspots, to funding our bridges, to balancing his time between RI and Washington DC. Both seniority and being from a small state give us a lot of clout!
Physical Education
Physical Training for Active Careers. Powerlifting class: The “Press “
Issac visited our class with an explanation of proper bench press form and a demonstration. Wow, 475lbs x2, Issac is Awesome! Students conducted peer evaluations of their press technique using the floor press and or bench press.

Attendance Matters!
While we understand there are a lot of illness going around Scituate and RI right now, we want to encourage our students to come to school everyday if you are not sick. Currently, 17.4% of Scituate High School are deemed "chronically absent" which is determined as 18% of the school year. We currently rank 96th of all schools in RI for chronic absenteeism. Please come to school if you are not sick... we need you!!
Below are interactive leaderboards and resources for absenteeism from the Commissioner and the Governor.

From the School Nurse
Dear Parents and Guardians,
During fall and winter, we often see increases in rates of respiratory viruses. Respiratory viruses include flu, COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and the common cold. Fortunately, many of the same prevention measures help reduce the spread of all these viruses and keep students in school. The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has asked schools to share the recommendations listed below with the school community.
Get your flu shot. Everyone older than six months of age should be vaccinated against the flu every year. For information on where to get a flu shot, see health.ri.gov/flu.
Cough or sneeze into your elbow.
Wash your hands regularly throughout the day using soap for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol to clean your hands.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work, and school.
Stay home if you are sick.
Keep children home from daycare or school who have a fever, especially with a cough, congestion, runny nose, or sore throat, until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medications that reduce fever.
If you have COVID-19, isolate for five days and wear a mask through day 10.
Isolation and Precautions for People with COVID-19 | CDC
Be up to date on your COVID-19 vaccinations. For information on how to get vaccinated against COVID-19, see C19vaccineRI.org
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
