Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
BHS students enjoyed their shortened week and started looking forward to the first home football game. Keeping high school students engaged and plugged into their school is the best way to help them maintain good attendance. We have several clubs/groups, as well as athletics, to help kids stay connected to their school community. Encourage them to get involved and ask questions of the adults if they want to learn more!
In continuation of the messaging from The Anxious Generation, Jonathan Haidt revisits the concept of “play-based childhood”. “Children are most likely to thrive when they have a play-based childhood in the real world. They are less likely to thrive when fearful parenting and a phone-based childhood deprive them of opportunities for growth.”
As Haidt continues to explore the concept of our young people staying constantly “plugged in”, he focuses on what they are missing in the real world setting. As they continue to scroll through endless social media posts that make them feel less than who they are, we should start to question how healthy this behavior is for our young people. I encourage all parents to take stock of how much time your teen is on their phone. Have you established some expectations for its appropriate use, and are you talking with them about what they’re seeing in the endless (mostly false) social media abyss?
We hope you all have a great weekend, and we can’t wait to welcome back our students on Monday.
In service to our Bulldogs.

Hello, Families,
Now that we’ve been back to school for a couple of weeks, we start to see some of the illnesses that are hard to prevent from being around each other. I will always tell the students to stay hydrated and take care of themselves.
Overall, the kids have been great! The student parking lot and morning drop offs are going well. I am looking forward to the first home football game this Friday and the support from our student section. Don’t forget our Green Glory marching band and their performance!
Thank you, and have a nice weekend.
