Dear Shiloh Park fifth- and sixth-grade families,
❄️ Cold Weather Reminder! ❄️
As temperatures begin to drop, please remind your student to come to school dressed appropriately for the weather. Warm coats, hats, gloves, and other winter gear are encouraged.
5th grade students will continue to go outside for recess unless temperatures or weather conditions are extremely cold. Please help us ensure students are prepared to stay warm and comfortable while enjoying their outdoor time.
Thank you for your support in keeping our Roadrunners warm and ready for the school day!
R.I.S.E.
As October comes to an end our R.I.S.E. focus for November is Safety!
At Shiloh Park, safety is one of our most important R.I.S.E. expectations. We want every student to feel safe, respected, and comfortable learning at school. Safety means making choices that protect ourselves and others, both physically and emotionally.
Here are some important ways families can reinforce the expectation of Safety at home.
What Does Safety Look Like at School?
Keeping Hands, Feet, and Objects to Ourselves
Keep hands and feet to ourselves at all times.
Avoid play fighting, wrestling, pushing, shoving, or hitting.
Keep objects to ourselves and use school supplies appropriately.
Respect other students' personal space.
Making Safe Choices
Walk in hallways, classrooms and at lunch.
Use playground equipment appropriately.
Follow adult directions the first time.
Avoid roughhousing, horseplay, and unsafe games.
Think before acting and consider how our choices affect others.
Creating an Emotionally Safe Environment
Do not tease, threaten, intimidate, or bully others.
Respect personal differences and boundaries.
Report unsafe behavior or concerns to a trusted adult.
Help others feel welcome and included.
How Can Parents Help?
Families Can Reinforce Safety Expectations
Talking with your child about the importance of keeping hands and feet to themselves.
Reminding your child that play fighting is not appropriate at school, even when both students think it is fun.
Encouraging your child to walk away from unsafe situations.
Discussing the importance of following adult directions.
Reminding your child to speak up when they or someone else feels unsafe.
Our Shared Commitment
Safety is Everyone's Responsibility
- What may seem like joking or playing to one student may cause another student to feel uncomfortable, threatened, or hurt.
- We ask families to partner with us in reinforcing these expectations so that all students can learn and grow in a safe and positive environment.
Tardies to Class
We are working to reduce student tardies and ensure that every student arrives to each class period on time and ready to learn. Arriving on time helps students maximize instructional time, stay engaged, and develop important habits of responsibility.
Please take a moment to remind your child of the importance of moving promptly between classes and being in their classroom when the bell rings.
Every minute of learning matters!
Thank you for partnering with us to help our students be successful throughout the school day!
Get Involved! Join an After-School Club!
We encourage all fifth- and sixth-grade students to get involved in our after-school clubs!
Clubs are a great way to explore new interests, build friendships, develop skills, and feel more connected to our school community. We want every student to find something they enjoy and have the opportunity to shine beyond the classroom!
Get involved, try something new, and let’s RISE together! Permission slips can be found in the main office.
