3rd & 4th Grade Celebration of Learning & Concert
"Making the Band" was the theme for the 3rd & 4th grade concert Thursday night. They did a marvelous job dancing and singing timeless hit songs. Fourth grade displayed their video presentation on geology, and third grade displayed their Greek mythology presentations and sculptures.
Senator Bernie Sanders Choral Concert and Town Meeting on the Arts
On Saturday, Lothrop students participated in Senator Bernie Sanders' Choral Concert and Town Hall Meeting on the Arts. Lothrop students spent their day collaborating with other students from all over Vermont to discuss the importance of the Arts in schools. They also rehearsed the Vermont State Song as a large group and got a chance to have a Town Hall Meeting with the Senator! Many Lothrop students were able to chat with Senator Sanders and learned that his favorite color is blue, his favorite number is 2, and he appreciates and loves music of all kinds! The evening concluded with a large choral concert where our Lothrop chorus performed two of our best songs and rocked the house! Our Lothrop students performed wonderfully and did a fantastic job representing our school as some of the youngest performers to attend. Mrs. Bruce is very proud of their hard work and appreciates all of the parents and family members who made the journey over to Castleton to support us!
Author Elaine Dimopoulos Visits RNESU
On Wednesday, April 9th all 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students participated in a creative writing activity led by author, Elaine Dimopoulos. Elaine is the author of "The Remarkable Rescue at Milkweed Meadow" which is on the current Golden Dome Book Award List. On Thursday, April 11th, students in 4th through 6th grade throughout RNESU who read at least 5 books on the 2024-25 Golden Dome Book List attended a celebration event at OVUHS. They heard Elaine Dimopoulos speak about her book and its sequel. Students also participated in a trivia game that covered questions from all the books.
Outdoor Morning Recess
If the weather cooperates, we will begin our spring outdoor morning recesses on Monday, April 14th. Please make sure that your students have the necessary outdoor clothing as the mornings will still be chilly.
Important Information
Family Trip Request Form
- Your child’s attendance is crucial to their success in school. We understand that not all family experiences can be scheduled during normal school vacations. Given that, please be aware of the attendance procedures listed below when considering scheduling a family vacation outside of the normal school vacation times.
A maximum of ten (10) cumulative lawful absences verified by parental notification may be permitted during a school year. All absences beyond ten (10) cumulative days shall require official documentation.
Should your child accumulate more than 10 lawful absences we will ask for doctor’s documentation, a conversation with the nurse that results in an excused absence or other official documentation as approved by the school for future absences. Absences without medical documentation or approved by the school will be considered unexcused.
Please contact your school principal with any questions or concerns in reference to this matter.
Emails from Lothrop (RNESU)
Please be aware that we have received information that emails sent from Lothrop might go to email spam folders. Please check your spam folder routinely and let us know if you are not receiving regular communication from Lothrop (RNESU). Thank you!
Car Pick-up Reminder
Car riders are dismissed to the lower lot on Pleasant Street at 2:35 PM each day. Parents should be waiting in the car pick-up line until they reach the designated pick-up area. If you have students at Lothrop and Otter Valley, please have your children meet and wait together. We ask that you join the end of the car pick-up line to ensure that both of your children are ready to be picked up. If you arrive early, we ask that you pull into the lower lot and park. Please don’t park on Pleasant Street or Cross Street blocking in residents and/or the fire station.
Chaperone Guidelines - Sign-up to Be a Volunteer!
It is the time of year where we begin to think about field trips. If you are planning on chaperoning a field trip or volunteering at Lothrop throughout the year, you are required to complete a background check, fingerprinting, and ID scanning through Raptor, our Supervisory Union security system. Due to the amount of time it takes to complete the full process, we are asking parents/guardians to begin the process now. Appointments for fingerprinting fill up fast and we want to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to attend field trips and take part in volunteering for school events with their students. If you are interested in chaperoning or want to check and see if the background check you completed in the past is still valid, please reach out to Sara Eddy at seddy@rnesu.org or call the office at 802-483-2242.
