2015 Colorado Teen Literature Conference
Students-if you are a reader or a writer, e-mail Mrs. LaRue ASAP to throw your name in the hat to attend the 2015 Colorado Teen Literature Conference in Denver! Find out more information here (Español) and through the video below. Registration and lunch is provided, but transportation is up to the family. We will contact the students chosen to attend after Winter Break. Good luck! (Andrew Smith, the author of 100 Sideways Miles, Winger, Grasshopper Jungle, and more will be just one of the authors students have the chance to meet!)

Tech Tool of the Month
Make PowerPoints, slideshows, and other presentations come to life! Present.me is a great way for students to upload PowerPoints, Prezis, and PDFs and add audio narration or video narration to allow anyone to watch (and hear) their presentations remotely. Students can create a free account below by logging in to their Adams 12 Google Account. Here's a student example, and here's a presentation I created after downloading an existing Haiku Deck presentation on eBooks into PowerPoint.
Here are the kinds of Presentations You Can Create with Present.me.

The Colorado Blue Spruce Book Award
The Colorado Blue Spruce Young Adult Book Award recognizes the most popular books among middle and high school students in the State of Colorado. Teens nominate their favorite titles and select the winner - adults do not vote. Students needed to have read at least three of these books to vote. Voting closed in December, so check the library website soon for the winners!
Photos for Class
Want a new, easy place to find Creative Commons photos for your students? Photos for Class is a new service designed to help students and teachers find and cite Creative Commons-licensed images brought to you by Storyboard That. It's easy! Just search and download properly attributed, copyright free images. See the example to the right (click to enlarge).
Don't forget other great options for Creative Commons and Public Domain photos:
- Pixabay (no need to attribute)
- PhotoPin
- Creative Commons Search (Did you know there were 822 million Creative Commons-licensed works on the internet? That's a huge amount of free to use photos, video, songs, and more!)

Students: Did you get an email from Mrs. LaRue?
In mid September, we started sending e-mails to students when they have overdue library books. We also send lists to teachers to post in their classrooms, but those notices do not have book titles to protect student privacy.
So, students have an overdue library book or a library fine, they can find out which book is out two ways.
- Students can log in to their Adams 12 Gmail here. If they have a recent e-mail from me (Mrs. LaRue), they will see the title and price of materials checked out or lost.
- Students can log in to Destiny themselves and see what's on their account. A video tutorial is below if interested in trying that.
