What's happening in each grade level?
Great things are happening in PreK already! We are working on writing our names as we learn about our school and the school helpers that make our learning successful every day!
Kindergarten has been working very hard on recognizing and writing their names. We have also been learning to recognize numbers to 5 and counting to 30. They are working hard and doing an awesome job!
We have gotten off to a great start this year! We were so excited to see so many parents come out to our Information Night! Our first graders are working hard to make the transition from being kinder friends to first grade boys and girls! They are quickly becoming very independent. We have made our way around the school visiting the library, our new Science Lab, the cafeteria, music room, and the gymnasium. In ELAR, we are reviewing reading levels A-D. We have learned about retelling stories using beginning, middle, and end and will continue on with readers’ and authors’ purpose. In math we have finished our unit on taking surveys and building and reading bar and pictographs. Next, we are moving on to making 10 and problem solving with addition and subtraction within 10. Problem solving is always difficult, but if they pay attention and follow the expectation, we know they will do amazing. Keep in mind that our Reading and Math Maps test is quickly approaching. It is important that students do their best and show us what they know.
3rd grade will be working on:
In math will include finding the perimeter, rounding, money, multiplication and word problems.
In reading and writing, the focus will include author's purpose (PIEED), author's message, understanding context clues, parts of speech, and how to edit sentences to name a few.
Social studies will be about communities.
Science will include covering properties of matter and investigating energy.
Our fabulous 4th graders have been busy launching strong literacy habits, working with place value, decimals, and rounding, reviewing science safety and tools, and learning about the regions of Texas. We have had a great start to our school year!
In the Fifth Grade we have been getting the students back from summer vacation into the new challenges for the new grade. We are pleased to report that the students are meeting these challenges.
Some of the skills that we are meeting are the basic skills of math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The review of 4th Grade fundamentals will help the new skills that 5th grade students must meet. Promotion of this at home will give a great boost to their levels.
Hands-on science and technology have also been introduced to the new 5th Grade students.
Our “Tetris” game theme in our grade shows the building blocks where our 5th Graders will meet challenges presented to them.
The Parent and Teacher Partnership
Fowler Elementary is committed to frequent two-way communication with families about their child's learning. Communication is key! Your partnership is valued and appreciated. If you have a concern, we ask that you allows us the opportunity to investigate and respond. If the concern is about a classroom situation, we ask that you attempt to resolve the concern with your child's teacher as the first course of action. If you still have a concern after speaking to your child's teacher, please feel free to reach out to an administrator and we will be glad to assist you.
