Fourth Grade

March is Women's History Month, and our 4th graders have been hard at work researching and learning about inspiring women who have made a difference in the world. For their final project, each student selected a famous woman to focus on and published an essay highlighting her achievements.

Pre-K

The month of February Mrs. Gross’s Pre-K class has been learning all about dental health. They learned how to brush and why it is important to brush their teeth. To celebrate they made tooth fairy pillows that can be used when they lose a tooth.

Grade 8

8th grade students put their artistic skills to work with a character analysis project from The Outsiders.

Grade 6

Sixth Grade students were introduced to the Socratic Seminar with the book, A Long Walk to Water. Though the text is historical fiction, the main character’s journey is true and we are working on nonfiction elements with the book. A Socratic Seminar is a seminar where students work together and discuss on their own. They are asked a question to guide their thinking and an interpretative question to analyze. They jot notes that pertain to the questions while they are reading. After we read the chapters, they have time to jot their thinking in their reader’s notebook. We then gather for A Socratic Seminar. It is conducted by the students while the teacher records their thinking for everyone to see. After the students all share their thinking and their analysis they go back and rewrite the original response and make it better. The students are all having one, big, meaningful discussion about the book with minimal help from the teacher. They look forward to reading the book and conducting the seminar daily.
