BCJ SOAR Spotlight

A Message from Your BCJ Team
Dear BCJ Families π«π€π
As we close out the 2025β2026 school year, we want to sincerely thank you for your partnership, commitment, and unwavering support throughout the year. While there were many challenges along the way, together we created meaningful milestones and lasting memories for our students and school community.
We were proud to celebrate each grade level with special end-of-year celebrations, and we are especially thankful for the beautiful send-off for our 5th grade students as they prepare for their next chapter. A special thank you to Koran Bolden for sharing such an inspiring message with our students during the 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony. We are also excited that every 5th grade student received a copy of his latest book along with a personalized autograph to commemorate this special occasion.
As summer begins, we encourage our families to take advantage of the many free opportunities and activities throughout Saint Louis. Most importantly, take time to rest, stay safe, enjoy your loved ones, and do something that brings you pure joy.
Thank you again for an incredible school year. We appreciate each of you and look forward to welcoming everyone back in the fall!
With gratitude,
BCJ Instructional Team π€π

πLast Day for Backpacksπ
Dear Families,
Please note that Thursday, May 28, 2026, will be the last day for students to bring backpacks to school. Teachers will be sending home student workbooks and instructional materials, including Fundations and EnVision resources.
We encourage families to reach out to your childβs teacher for meaningful ways to use these materials over the summer to continue learning and practice skills.
Thank you for your continued support!
Reminder - Arrival Procedure
This is a friendly reminder that students should remain in their cars until 8:30 a.m., as there is no adult supervision available prior to that time. For the safety of all students, please do not drop children off early.
We also ask that you drive slowly and carefully through the parking lot during arrival, as there are many children and families moving through the area.
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe each day!
Field Day T-Shirts
The day has come! Please be sure your child wears their Field Day shirt on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
Field Day is always a highlight of the school year, and matching shirts help build school spirit while creating a fun, unified experience for our students. We are excited for a day filled with fun, teamwork, and great memories!
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a fun and memorable day for our students!

From the Heart of UCity - Podcast
In recognition of Mental Health Month, Dr. Hardin-Bartley recently had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Jason Purnell for an episode of From the Heart of U. City.
As President and CEO of the James S. McDonnell Foundation, Dr. Purnell has been an incredible partner in supporting the success and well-being of students and families through initiatives such as City Connects and the future School-Based Health Center at University City High School. His leadership has consistently centered equity, health, and opportunity for underserved communities throughout St. Louis.

Missouri State Law (Senate Bill 68)
Cell phones
Smartwatches
Tablets and laptops
Wireless headphones or earbuds (like Beats Bluetooth/Wi-Fi headphones)
What this means in practice:
During the regular school day (from the first bell to dismissal), students generally must keep wireless headphones turned off and stored in a backpack or locker. They typically cannot be worn or visible in class, lunch, recess, or passing periods.
Scheduling
At BCJ, we truly value your time and want to ensure that every conversation with our administration team is thoughtful, focused, and productive.
