Student Services and Parent Connection
This past month has been busy and we can't believe we are already approaching the holiday break. Our department started some small groups this month focusing on coping and self-management. Small groups are a great opportunity to learn and work with other students. Additionally, we are already planning our Annual Chill Week that will be during the first week of February and students in 8th grade will start learning about High School registration in January! We are keeping busy at Meyer Middle School and are so grateful for all of our students and families.
Our department is wishing you a great holiday season and end to the 2024 year!
Mental Health Spotlight
Mental Health and the Holiday Season
The Holidays can be a time for celebration, but it also can produce feelings of stress and anxiety. According to a NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Health) study, 64% of people with mental illness report that holidays can make their conditions worse. Our department hopes you and your family can enjoy the most this holiday season. Below is a list of suggestions for reducing stress and taking care of yourself:
Be kind to yourself. Recognize what may cause you stress and prepare for those situations.
Schedule movement. Moving our bodies naturally produces stress relieving hormones.
Set aside time for yourself. Read a book, go to a movie, listen to music, walk your dog, etc.
Eat healthy foods.
Get enough sleep.
Spend time outside.
Volunteer. Helping others can help you feel connected to your community.
Enjoy time with friends and family who offer you support.
Counseling Crew Spotlight
Hi! My name is Jordan Seifert and I am the 8th grade counselor this year. This is my 6th year at Meyer Middle School and 12th year as a school counselor. I attended UW-Eau Claire for my undergraduate degree and UW-Stout for my Masters in School Counseling. I started my career in Northern Wisconsin, where I still love to spend time, but moved back to this area six years ago.
My husband and I keep busy with our two kids. In the summer, we spend a lot of time in our camper, at the cabin, and on the lake! Our favorite thing to do is spend time with our extended family. When I am not spending time with my kids, I enjoy reading, staying active, cheering on our favorite sports teams, and drinking coffee!
