ThunderRidge Weekly Update

Principal's Perspective
Happy Fall Break!
We had wonderful instrumental music and choir concerts this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you didn’t see the Bro-Re-Mi’s cell phone song, you missed a delightful comedic moment. I also enjoyed seeing so many of you at Parent/Teacher Conferences last night. Thanks to the staff who helped get everything set up and torn down and to the students who helped families find where they needed to go. Thanks also to the families who came to support their students. We know that’s not possible for everyone, but love it whenever we can have face time with you all.
Many thanks to those staff and students who helped us test all Juniors for the PSAT/NMSQT this week. Typically (although you can’t always be sure), students get results for this test in 4-5 weeks. Our hope is that these results help Juniors identify their strengths and gaps for the SAT in mid-April. Since the SAT is one way that students demonstrate their competencies for graduation and since good scores can help with college applications and scholarships, we want to give everyone as strong a chance for success as possible by doing this practice test now.
Quarter progress grades post tonight. Remember, these progress grades do not go on students’ transcripts. They are to show you where your students currently are and to open up dialog with your students and their teachers as needed.
Thank you to those of you who use the shared parking lot between RVMS and TRHS to pick up and drop off students in the mornings. We know traffic this year has been challenging - and that we need about a billion more people in every lot. If you’ve driven this pattern, don’t hesitate to share your feedback here. We’ll review that data over Break to let you know by the end of next week if we’ll be continuing in this fashion (including restriping and all) or if we’ll return to the prior system. Sadly, we (as DCSD) do not have the ability to change light lengths or to add crosswalks/signs/lights but have shared your feedback with the folks who have the power to act on those recommendations.
Thanks to those students who applied to be a part of the Principal’s Advisory Council. I’ll be starting that up shortly after our return from Break.
I hope - regardless of what your Fall Break plans are - you get the opportunity to rest and enjoy time together with the people who are important to you!
All the hugs,
Liz

IB Update
Happy Fall Break Everyone!
As you head into break, we want to let you know the registration window for the May 2027 International Baccalaureate examination session is officially open. Whether you are a full IB Diploma Candidate or taking individual IB Course certificates, registering on time ensures you can earn college credit and coursework in your classes and avoid steep late fees. We handed out registration sheets to all IB teachers this week, and students can opt in or out of the Exams before the November 1st deadline. While all students in IBDP courses should take the exam, here are some reasons as to why:
1. Real College Credit & Significant Tuition Savings
Most major universities in the United States, Canada, and abroad award college credit for strong scores on IB exams.
2. Advanced Course Placement
Even at selective institutions that don't grant direct credit hours, high IB exam scores often let you place directly into higher-level major courses, skipping large intro lectures. This frees up your schedule to double major, study abroad, or graduate early.
3. Competitive Advantage in College Admissions
Admissions committees evaluate applicants based on the rigor of their high school curriculum. Registering for and completing the full suite of IB assessments shows top-tier universities that you didn't just take a rigorous course, but carried it through to external evaluation.
4. International Credential & Global Mobility
Unlike regional standard assessments, IB exam results are recognized by universities in over 150 countries. If you plan to apply to institutions in the UK, Europe, Australia, or Canada, official IB scores are a primary criterion for unconditional admission offers.
If you have questions or concerns about the IB exam period, please check with your IB course instructor first, then contact Mr. Risner, the IB Coordinator, at trhsib11@dcsdk12.org.
Have a great break!!
