Thank you, Mrs. Gullion

This past week we celebrated guidance counselor appreciation week. Students covered her office window with post its and then each class contributed to a flower bouquet. We love and appreciate Mrs. Gullion and her side kick, Millie! Thank you for everything you do.

Students are allowed to go up and purchase "snacks" once they are done eating their lunch. This is something that they must have money in their account in order to do. If you don't want your child to be able to do this - you can email Sherry Bell (sbell@mccsc.k12.in.us) and she can put a note on their account. Here is a picture of what is usually available and what those prices are:

Visitors - PLEASE READ!

Our new school visitor system is finally up and running! Please make sure you bring your ID anytime you come into the school building. You will need to scan your ID and then it will print a visitor badge. This is for lunch with your kiddo, helping in a classroom, class parties - anything you will be in the building for.

Birthday Treats & Party Invites

TREATS - Please check with your child's teacher or the office before sending in birthday treats for your child. We have several severe allergies & we need to make sure we are keeping everyone safe while we celebrate. Here is a list of SAFE items you can bring in if your child is in a class with one of these allergies. Thank you for helping us make sure everyone is included!

INVITES - The only way these can be passed out at school is if EVERYONE in the class (or all boys in the class or all girls) are receiving one. If everyone is not being invited, please make plans to pass them out before or after school hours.

Reminder for transportation changes

Please call the office for any changes that need to be made - dojo or email isn't always reliable as we aren't sure who is always in the office. All calls to the office for daily transportation changes need to be made by 2:00. Please plan accordingly and call before this time. Folders and notes are run at 2:45 each day.

Disrupted routines from snow days and 2-hour delays can be tricky for students (and let's face it, even us grownups!), so we are focusing on consistency and connection as we head into next week. We also just finished celebrating Kindness Week—ask your child how they were Kindness superheroes this week and how you can practice kindness together as a family this weekend!

Here are a few "dinner table" conversation starters that you could try at home:

Did you see anyone do something kind today that they thought nobody noticed? What was it?
What is something kind you did for yourself today? (Like taking a deep breath, trying again after a mistake, or resting?)
When someone was kind to you today, how did it change your mood or the rest of your afternoon?

Wishing for Spring

As we enter February and the early signs of spring begin to appear, I’m reminded once again of how grateful I am for the strong partnership we share at Mill Creek West. Watching our Wildcats grow in confidence and character continues to be one of the greatest joys of my role as principal.

This season brings new learning goals, moments of reflection, and the start of our spring testing window. While this can be a time of focus and challenge, it’s also a powerful reminder of how much our students have grown — and how much they’re capable of. With your continued support, we know they will rise to the occasion.

If you ever have questions, concerns, or ideas to share, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Your child’s safety, happiness, and love for learning remain our top priorities every single day.

Here’s to a season of growth, encouragement, and brighter days ahead!

Warmly,
Mrs. Sonna Schafer
