Fall 2025 edition
Welcome Back to School!
Hello Pennsylvania Educators of Students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing!
We hope that you all had a tremendous summer full of rest, adventure and inspiration! The time to sharpen those pencils and dust off the lesson plans comes upon us more quickly every year, doesn't it? We are now well into the start of the school year and your PESDHH Officers are here to cheer you on! We know that that every lesson you teach and every connection you make changes lives. We also know that continuously advocating and "fighting the good fight" on behalf of our students and their families is hard and demanding work. Please stay on the lookout for opportunities to network with us throughout the school year so that you don't have to do it alone!
Summer 2025 Workshop Review
Last August PESDHH held the annual Summer Workshop event. Twenty-one PA DHH teachers spent the day together in focused discussion on some critical topics which effect all of us, no matter our location or type of support we offer our students. The following is a brief summary of each topic that was addressed at the workshop:
- ASL Teaching Resources - Cynthia Long, founder of ASL Teaching Resources, gave us a website overview, including a mini-session for ways to use AI included into searching materials and writing lessons.
- SSCHL - Michelle Andros gave us a deep-dive look at some tools for data collection that she introduced to use at our Resources event last Spring
- Danielson Framework - The PESDHH officers shared examples of evidence and artifacts relevant to TODs for their yearly evaluations.
- Teacher Spotlight: Becky Sneidman shared about her role in her IUs Deaf-Blind initiative and helped to lead discussion from teachers for where to find supports and resources. Melissa Hall shared a resource she developed where she is keeping record of books and novels with Deaf characters; sharing this with the group sparked some excellent discussion and resource-sharing to grow her list, as well as for others to get ideas for their own lists!
- Door Prizes: 1 year CAID Membership, SSCHL freebie; Online Itinerant freebie
Those who attended the Summer 2025 Workshop paid $50, which includes admission to two additional after-school workshops to be held during the 2025-2026 school year and covers the cost for Act 48 credit for all workshops attended throughout the school year.
2025-2026 Workshop Opportunities
Fall Event - SAVE THE DATE
PESDHH Officers are working out details for the Fall after-hours event. The topic for this workshop will be "Hearing Technology". We will have a representative from Phonak with us to share an overview of their technology (don't worry...it won't be a sales pitch!). We hope to have the agenda set and a registration link sent out soon! Two hours of Act 48 will be offered for attendance to this event. The date and time for this event is Wednesday November 5th from 6-8pm.
Spring Event
We are already looking ahead to our Spring after-hours workshop! We do not have a date set for this yet, but we are hoping our topic can be something related to auditory training following cochlear implant. If you have connections and/or resources that you would like us to consider for this workshop, please reach out! Email PESDHH22@gmail.com.
