Warrior Weekly
November 14, 2025
Warriors,
We’re excited to celebrate all the wonderful things happening at West Point Junior High! Each day, our students and staff demonstrate what it means to be true Warriors—kind, hardworking, and committed to making our community stronger.
In this edition, you’ll find highlights from our meaningful Veteran’s Day Flag Raising Ceremony and learn about several of our exceptionally talented students who recently performed with the Davis School District 2025 Select Orchestra. You’ll also enjoy a few short, student-written articles showcasing the voices of our own budding journalists.
As the holiday season approaches, we invite you and your family to participate in our Junior High Sub for Santa program. This meaningful opportunity allows you to brighten the season for a teen in our school. Simply choose the Buddy the Elf ornament, it is linked to a wish from a West Point Jr. High student.
Our school musical, Descendents, is right around the corner—opening night is November 20th! Tickets are on sale now, and we encourage you to grab yours early. We couldn’t be more proud of our talented cast and crew as they prepare to share their hard work and creativity with the community.
We’re also thrilled to host our first “Warriors Are Wonderful” ticketed event—a movie night and late-night games on Saturday, December 6. Details can be found in this newsletter, along with the link to purchase tickets.
In that link you can also purchase other WAW items, like Chick-fil-a, Del Taco, Lolos Hawaiian BBQ, Raising Canes, and Little Caesars lunches or Dole whip and candy canes for your student. Plan on participating for a great cause!

Past Week Highlights
West Point Junior High Honors Local Veterans
West Point Junior High Student Body Officers proudly hosted a moving Veterans Day Flag Raising Ceremony to honor those who have served our country. Local veterans Dan Staker, who served in the National Guard’s First Battalion 145th Field Artillery; Reed Chambers, a Navy veteran who was stationed in Kostival, Washington D.C., and Tennessee; Mike Chambers, a civilian working on base; and Rick Lessey, who served in Desert Storm, joined the students to raise the flags in a powerful display of patriotism. The West Point Junior High Band stirred hearts with their performance of The Star-Spangled Banner as the crowd stood in respectful silence, reflecting with gratitude on the men and women who have courageously defended our freedoms.
Warriors Shine in District Select Orchestra
Congratulations to Lily, Kobe, Annabel, and Landon for being selected to perform in the Davis School District 2025 Select Orchestra! These talented students joined top musicians from across the district to create an outstanding performance. After an intensive all-day rehearsal on Friday, they took the stage Saturday under the direction of a special guest conductor from Texas. They represented West Point Junior High with excellence and pride—way to go, Warriors!

Attendance Matters
Benefits of attendance in school.
Regular and consistent attendance in junior high is essential because it helps students build strong academic foundations during a critical period of learning. When students attend school every day, they stay connected to classroom instruction, discussions, and hands-on activities that can’t be replicated through makeup work alone. Consistent attendance also supports healthy routines, strengthens social connections, and builds responsibility. Research shows that students who attend regularly are more likely to achieve higher grades and feel confident in their learning. Simply put, being present sets students up for success—both now and in the years ahead.

When Teachers Make a Difference
by: Olivia and Anslie
Here at West Point Junior High, we have an amazing math department. One of our terrific teachers is Mrs. Thornock, and her students think so too! They said that she is great at explaining concepts, helping with confusing equations, and answering their questions when they don’t understand. When Mrs. Thornock was asked about why she became a math teacher, she said, “I tutored math in college, and I had a great high school algebra teacher and that’s why I fell in love with it.” Her favorite parts of class are interacting with her students and when they get an “ah-ha” moment after not understanding a concept. Mrs. Thornock’s classroom is decorated with notes from her students telling her how much they adore her, and we know why! It’s clear to see that she’s an extraordinary math teacher!
Hang Out Spot Alert: Games Galore!
by: Danielle
Sure, libraries are usually known for being quiet places to read or study—but not at West Point Junior High! During lunch, the library transforms into one of the school’s most popular hangout spots. Students can play ping pong or foosball, dive into board games, or simply relax and chat with friends.
When asked why they love spending lunch there, students shared their thoughts:
-
Why do you come here during lunch? “To hang out with friends.”
-
What’s your favorite thing to do? “Mess around on my computer and code.”
-
What do you normally do? “Ping Pong or Foosball.”
-
If you could add something new? “Really hard to answer—there are already a lot of great things!”
It’s clear that West Point’s library is anything but boring. Whether you want to play, create, or just chill, the library is the place to be. Stop by during lunch and join the fun!
