West Point El. Parent Update
Week of October 6, 2024
Dear West Point Families,
We have many THANK YOUs to give this week! We would like to thank our PTA for sponsoring the Book Fair and Breakfast, Books, and Buddies this past week. We would like to thank our teachers for preparing for conferences and to our families for supporting your students by attending these conferences. We would also like to thank our West Point community for donating to the Student Council's SOCKtober service project. 300 pairs of socks were donated and will be delivered to a homeless shelter.
Reflections entries are due this Friday. We are excited to see what our students are creating for Reflections. Please remind your students that the due date is this Friday.
Correction: Our PTA "Walk, Ride, or Roll to School Day" will be next Wednesday, October 16, not this Wednesday..
We also have our "Say Boo to the Flu" immunization clinic after school this Monday and Tuesday.
Here are three important things to know for the coming week.
- Reflections entries are due this Friday!
- Please encourage your students to earn their October attendance and reading brag tags. We are trying to increase the number of students who earn these brag tags each month.
- Yearbooks can be purchased on myDSD. They cost $15.00 through December 31. Prices go up to $18.00 starting January 1.
Every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy

Experience the Magic
A is for Attentiveness
Our new magical manner for this week is, "Take Turns in Conversation," which aligns with October's LETTERING focus, A for Attentiveness. 52 Modern Manners for Kids
We hope you will help students develop attentive listening at home as well as the practice they get at school. Attentiveness is giving close and thoughtful attention to the things people say and do around us. Being attentive to others can help our students be successful in connecting with others, learning from others, and building relationships.
October Brag Tags
462 students earned their September Attendance Brag Tags. Way to go! That is 76% of our student body. We would like to see if we can improve that percentage for October. Please help your student be at school everyday. Students can earn a brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.
Halloween Guidelines
Students are invited to join in our Halloween celebration on Thursday, October 31. We will start the day at 9:05 a.m. with our Halloween Costume Parade, which will be held outside along the track in the back field. Students may wear costumes for the parade, but they need to be prepared to change out of their costumes immediately following the parade. Please send a bag to put costumes in so they don't get lost.
For parents: Please use these guidelines when planning costumes with your children. These guidelines are meant to help our Halloween celebration be respectful, responsible, safe, and kind for all.
- Be respectful: Avoid stereotypes. Be racially sensitive and culturally appropriate. Students may not dress up as an ethnic or cultural group (i.e., a Mexican, a Geisha, a Native American, etc.). Culture is not a costume. Skin color must not be altered in any way.
- Be responsible: Recognize that students in a wide age range will see the costumes. Costumes should be family friendly. Costumes may not be gory or threatening.
- Be safe: No weapons, real or pretend are allowed (i.e. light sabers, swords, hooks, Wolverine claws). Masks may not be worn. Crowns or hats may be worn.
- Be caring: Costumes should be fun and exciting, not political, or offensive.
Vision and Screening Information
Vision and Hearing Screening Notice
Dear Parents,
Davis School District follows state mandates and guidelines by providing free vision and hearing screening for students.
- Vision screening is conducted under a school nurse's supervision. We screen all students in preschool, kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th grades.
- Hearing screening is conducted under the district audiologist's supervision and includes students in preschool, kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grades.
- Both screenings are given to students who are new to our district, experiencing signs of vision or hearing problems or receiving SPED evaluations.
If your student does not pass either screening, you will be notified.
Forms have been sent home with your students. If you wish to have your child NOT participate in these screenings, please return that form to the school’s main office.
Thank you!
