Community Service Club

Mrs. Abel's Friday green block, community service club, has been sprucing up the neighborhoods in Washakie Co..

Community Services at the high school is reaching out and helping different community organizations so that our youth can see the vital role in shaping responsible, compassionate, and engaged citizens.

It fosters personal growth while addressing community needs, creating a positive cycle of benefit for both the WHS student and the community. Delanie Johnson signed up for this block for the block to give back. "I chose to do community service because I enjoy helping people in need. I also wanted to give back to my community because they have helped me a lot throughout my life. To me, community service means helping people and facilities with tasks that they aren't able to complete themselves. For example one block period we went to the community garden and picked weeds and sifted through a pile of soil. Mrs. Acey was very thankful when our class came to the garden because it would have taken her a long time to do all of the work by herself. Community service to me is also very rewarding, when I leave I feel like I accomplished something and helped everyone as well as I could."

We have ...

  • visited elderly at Worland HealthCare & Rehabilitaion Center

  • cleaned windows and folded laundry at Worland HealthCare & Rehabilitaion Center

  • assistance to Worland Preschool and painted outdoor play equipment

  • partnered with the Washakie County Conservation District and did highway cleanup along HWY 16 E

  • assisted the Community Garden and pulled weeds and took down old flower pots

  • Helped set up for the Octoberfest with Worland Chamber of Commerce

  • Cleaned and helped organize baseball equipment for Worland Recreation

  • We helped with the Worland Parks with leave clean up in Pioneer Square.

FFA attends nationals

Mrs. G, as most students adress her by, hit the road early Sunday(Oct.20th), morning for Illinois to attend the national convention. A trip that all the officers look forward to. They stop along the way and catch up with alumni and former WHS students, sight see different places, go to Mrs. Godrey's favorite chocolate making busines, and this round went to Grant's Farm to see Clydesdale horses; where they got to get up close and personal with them! This trip was a memorable one for them, Chief Washakie was for the 1st time since 1990, recognized as a National Chapter, earning 2 stars. Chapters that receive a gold rating and are in the top 5 chapters by their state FFA Associations are eligible to compete for National FFA 3-star, 2-star or 1-star ratings. In addition to walking across the stage to receive their award, the officer team attended a leadership workshop, the first general session, the career fair and expo, and took four agricultural tours.

Half way through 1st Semester

They aren't lying when they say time flies! WHS held parent teacher conferences in Oct. to end the 1st quarter of classes. We had the FAFSA rep here to help those senior parents start the process. Please email Mrs. Lamm with any questions. Josten's was here to hand out packets for caps & gowns to seniors. If you have a senior please check with them to make sure you get caps and gowns ordered timely. Students & staff enjoyed a 3 day weekend and the weather was beautiful! We came back refreshed and ready to work Tuesday. All students started a new green block for Frudays; be sure to ask your student which ones they got. We really have some cool ones! We have Graduation, what's next, drones, ACT science/math prep for juniors, Thunderbird projects and Westside math helpers, wood burning, studio hour art, skills USA auto, culinary, and welding to help them prepare for upcoming competitions. Wool judging and livestock judging. We have heavy machinary, black smithing, and 2 sections of pickleball; which brings in the famous community pickleball group!

Bead war champion

Student council added a little challenge to WHS. You were able to purchase beads before school and challenge anyone that had them on to a game of rock, paper, scissors. If you won, you got their beads. On Friday we had a pep rally and the top 10 people (staff particiapted too) were in the finals. Winner Ty Miller shows off his big win!

Josh Hansen addresses the student body at the pep rally. His message was inspiring to our students. His talk was designed to energize everyone as we gear up for our upcoming state events.

Josh shared insights from his time in the service, emphasizing how those experiences relate to the challenges students face today. He provided practical strategies for overcoming obstacles in both sports and daily life, encouraging our students to clear the “threats” that hold them back. His powerful message aimed to motivate and empower them as they pursue their goals.

We’re excited to see the positive impact of his words on our students as they head into this important season!
