Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothes in their backpack. Accidents happen while your child is at school (bathroom accidents, playground mishaps, lunchroom spills, ripped or torn clothes, etc.) and we do not have extra clothes to lend out. Having an extra set here at school saves parents from having to make a trip to Hawkins during the day. We appreciate your help!

Happy Thursday Hawkins,

With the threat of extremely cold weather coming, we are sending out our newsletter early just in case. This has been a crazy week with unexpected snow, blowing snow, and icy conditions. We have done our best to navigate that fine line of getting the kids outside, and keeping them safe. Please make sure your students are coming to school prepared to go outside. A reminder that we do not have school on Monday, January 27th due to a teacher PD day. Our teachers will be learning about a new ELA pilot, as well as revisiting some school rules and procedures to see if we need to make adjustments. I am in the busy part of reffing, so I am traveling somewhere every night, but it keeps me busy. I have a college game in Port Huron on Saturday so I will get to see my youngest daughter. She is due in April, I am so excited to be a grandpa. Have a great weekend, stay safe and warm. Thanks as always for allowing me to be your principal!

Dear Parents,

I am sending this note today as a message of appreciation. One of the many blessings for the Brighton Area Schools is the character of our students. Our students and the way they behave is a reflection on our school district and especially on their families. You should be very proud, just as we are.

Unfortunately, as with any gathering of young people, there are exceptions to the norm. In a safe and secure environment such as ours, those exceptions stand out and can be very bothersome to the overwhelming majority of our students. In these cases, especially on our buses, we continue to encourage our students to say something when they see something. This gives our transportation department and principals an opportunity to address this behavior swiftly and take any needed corrective action.

If you could remind your children about the importance of saying something when misbehavior is seen, this will help us to maintain the highest expectations for behavior and the safest environment for all of our students.

Thank you so much for your time and thank you to your students for reflecting so positively on this district.

Sincerely,

Matt Outlaw

Virtual Tutoring Opportunity Grades 2 - 8: Reading or Math Virtual Tutoring Opportunity Grades 2 - 8: Reading or Math

For the past few years, Brighton Area Schools have offered invite only Virtual Tutoring for students who may need additional support in reading or math (based on assessment data). This winter, we have a limited number of seats available for additional students in grades 2 - 8 to take advantage of this program.

This 10-week structured program will provide high-dosage one-on-one online tutoring with a live teacher (provided by our partner, Littera) two times per week for 30 minutes utilizing high quality online content. The Virtual Tutoring runs from February 17 through May 1. When registering, families will be able to pick the days and times that work best for them.

This is a virtual program; therefore, students will meet with their live teacher online for only 30 minutes a day, two times per week. Based on the online nature of the program, students can connect from wherever they have internet access.

Complete: Winter Virtual Tutoring Interest Form to express interest in participating in this program. Please complete the form for your student as soon as possible and on or before Friday, January 30, 2026 to express your interest in this opportunity. Space is limited.

Please click on: Informational flyer for details or Littera for additional information about our tutoring services provider.
