At Henderson Mill Elementary, we believe that exposing students to STEAM careers early opens doors to limitless possibilities. Experiences like STEAM Day allow our Hawks to explore real-world connections, spark curiosity, and begin envisioning themselves as future doctors, engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers. These hands-on opportunities help build confidence, creativity, and a love for learning that will carry far beyond the classroom.

If you work in the medical field, we would love your support! Whether you are a doctor, nurse, dentist, pharmacist, physical therapist, medical assistant, radiology technician, lab technician, mental health professional, or work behind the scenes in healthcare administration or research, your expertise can inspire our students in powerful ways. Please consider volunteering. See link below.

We are incredibly grateful to our STEAM Lab Leader, Mrs. Corrales, for the passion, dedication, and excellence she has poured into our STEAM Lab all year long. Because of her leadership, our students have had meaningful, engaging STEAM experiences that truly bring learning to life, and we know there are even more great things ahead!

  • NEW! We need your support with our Motivational Doors!!! Please contact your child's teacher on details to come and decorate their classroom door.

If you can spare even a little time, you do not have to stay the entire time, please come by the school, sign in, and ask for our Parent Liaison, Ms. Vicky. She’ll show you the ropes and make it super easy to jump in.

We truly cannot overstate how much your involvement matters. Our students benefit immensely from your support, and we would be so grateful for your time, big or small.

MAY SEL FOCUS

As we wrap up the school year, we want to share a brief update on the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) experiences your children have participated in throughout the year.

Our school counselors have provided students with age-appropriate SEL lessons focused on building important life skills that support both learning and well-being. These lessons included developing positive mindsets, setting goals, understanding and managing emotions, and showing empathy toward others. Students also learned strategies for problem-solving, building healthy friendships, and contributing to a safe and supportive school environment.

In addition, students explored personal safety topics, including understanding boundaries and knowing how to seek help from trusted adults. A strong emphasis was placed on helping students build confidence, recognize their strengths, and develop a positive sense of self. These lessons are designed to support the whole child and help students make thoughtful, responsible decisions both in and out of the classroom. It has been a wonderful year of growth, and our students are looking forward to a well-deserved break.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to promote emotional well-being and success for every child.

In April, students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are required to take the Georgia Milestones Assessment. This test will include Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Science (5th grade only). A practice test is available online, with questions set up and structured just like the actual assessment.

Please log on to see what will be expected of your child in April. See video below for more support. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher. We look forward to partnering with you.

SOME INFO FROM YOUR FRIENDS AT THE HENDERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL PTSA

What is the HMS PTSA?

The Parent, Teacher, Student Association is very active at Henderson making sure that we are keeping families informed, involved and plugged in with teachers and the administration. We also invite students to attend and have a voice in our general meetings.

How do I stay in the know?

There’s a number of ways to plug in now.

  1. The HMS website here. Ms Jones, our wonderful media specialist, keeps it up-to-date weekly.

  2. You can subscribe to our PTSA newsletter here which goes out every Sunday evening during the school year keeping you updated about the weeks ahead including a calendar, events, and info about sports and club meetings. While you're on the PTSA website, look around. Lots of info for parents about HMS!

  3. The Henderson Parents Facebook page is pretty active and a good way to ask other parents questions. If you have questions about classes and academics, we always recommend you contact the school directly.

  4. The Spanish speaking community of HMS families use the Padres de Henderson WhatsApp Group to communicate and HMS info is shared there as well.

How do I get involved?

We’re so glad you’re interested in getting involved!

The easiest place to start is by completing our General Volunteer Form so we can reach out when specific needs arise at the school.

You can also explore open PTSA board positions for the 2026 - 2027 school year as we work to fully staff our committees and share responsibilities in a way that feels manageable for everyone.

If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference at your student’s school, this is your moment. Our middle schoolers may not say it out loud, but your presence means everything. These are the critical years for us to lean in.

If you’re interested in supporting the HMS Foundation, which helps fund needs beyond the district budget, you can learn more about ways to give and get involved on the Foundation website.

Not sure where you’d be the best fit? Email communications@hmsptsa.org and tell us a little about your interests. We’d love to connect you with the right opportunity.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at HMS in the fall!

Thank you!
