The Next Chapter
The sixth graders in Mrs. Stieber’s The Next Chapter course have been busy reading and discussing books together in class. During the first unit called “Why Do People Love Reading?” students read the novel Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos. Through class discussions, students expressed how much they enjoyed the main character of Joey Pigza and how many of them could relate to some of the situations he found himself in as Joey began his middle school experience in this novel. Some students enjoyed the unforeseen happenings of this story so much that they opted to continue reading about Joey Pigza’s adventures through their independent book selections of the other books in this series. As the class begins to transition into the second unit called “Who Do You Love While Reading?” students are looking forward to evaluating a number of impactful authors and characters throughout literature. Students already got to know Washington Irving through the iconic and quirky character of Ichabod Crane in SCOPE magazine’s play version of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”. Students will soon be introduced to the famous author Charles Dickens as we read the play version of “A Christmas Carol” and analyze the timeless character of Ebenzer Scrooge. After our winter break, students will meet the author Rudyard Kipling through their reading of one of the short stories that was born from his full work The Jungle Book, called “Rikki Tikki Tavi”. Rikki is a mischievous mongoose who protects his human family from the king cobras who threaten their safety. Each of these works is meant to help reveal to students how an audience’s love of a character and/or of an author, can help to foster their overall love of reading. The students of The Next Chapter have been doing an amazing job viewing reading in a different way and are now feeling more confident when making their own independent reading book choices. Students look forward to visiting the Library every few weeks as a class where they have the time to explore all of the possibilities that are out there for their enjoyment of reading.

Log College Girls Basketball with an Impressive Victory
Log's Girls Basketball team defeated a very talented Holicong team 34 to 25. The girls used a swarming defense and surprising patience to propel themselves to victory.
Ava M. led the way with 11 points. The power house combination of Braelyn and Brielle M. combine for 12 points and an insane 22 rebounds.
Lily W. and Callie U. handled high pressure and double teams throughout the game with poise.
The play of the game was when Lily W. dribbled through Holicong's press to drop a dime to Hailey T. for 2 points which added to the lead just before halftime.
Great Job girls. The coaches are very proud. (Pics are from the home opener).
