Message From the Principal
Dear Wildwood Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful February break. It’s nice to get back to school and to see everyone. This is the time of year when things start moving quickly. There are only six weeks of school before the next break, so we have a lot to do!
Being that I deal with discipline, I also want to make sure there are positive ways to support the “Wildwood Way.”. This week, we started Snowball Games. Grade levels can earn 20 points and then have a snowball game. Some examples of how to earn points are making good choices, cleaning up after lunch, lining up quickly, being quiet in the hallways, being responsible in the library, etc. Sometimes a class earns a point, sometimes an individual can earn a point for the grade level. I’m hoping it’s a fun way to support the “Wildwood Way!”
And if you’re wondering about where the district is in regard to hiring a principal for Wildwood, the process began this week. At the January Parent Club Meeting, Superintendent Hawn said she is hoping to have the name of the finalist to the School Board for the March meeting. Stay tuned!
Thanks for all your support.
Beth Rhine

PE Obstacle Course
For the next two weeks (February 24 - March 7), the famous Piedmont Obstacle Course will be set up in the auditorium for PE! During this unit, students explore and develop the skills needed to navigate climbing, balancing, and going over, under, through and around objects. The obstacle course is a "no shoes and no socks activity" to ensure safety and grip on the climbing apparatuses. Also, dresses/skirts and tights that cover the feet are also not encouraged on PE days for the next two weeks to ensure maximum freedom of movement and comfort.
Doors open at 8:20am and school starts at 8:30am
I have a request for families. It seems like more and more students are arriving late to school in the morning and that can be a challenge. For the classroom, the morning routine is interrupted as students arrive late. For the teacher, they have to make sure the student(s) are welcomed and caught up regarding what’s happening. If students are trickling in, the teacher can’t get the school day started in an effective manner. And for the late-arriving student, it’s hard to come into a classroom after things have started. For those with any social anxiety, that can be tricky, too. I understand that some of our students have some challenges with the transition from home to school and we are here to help make that easier. I am usually on the lower courtyard with 4th and 5th graders in the morning but once they head in, I come upstairs and see if anyone needs support. But if you need a “heavy” in getting your child to school, feel free to use my name. I can play the bad guy. Just let them know, Ms. Rhine wants everyone to school on time, ready to learn!
Rainy Days
Drop-off and pick-up can be tricky on rainy days. We have two staff outside at drop off in the morning every day, and we will try to add more on rainy days. At pick-up, we will work on having at least two staff outside on rainy days. But how can you help? By driving carefully, being patient, pulling up all the way in the zone to make room for others, can all be helpful. And as on any day, please don’t leave your car unattended in the zone during school hours. That will slow everything down and creates safety issues. Thank you.
Next Year’s Plans
We are currently working on enrollment and planning for next year. If you know that your child is not returning to Wildwood next year, it would be super helpful if you could let us know as soon as possible. We have some students who want to come to Wildwood but we don’t yet have space. Feel free to email the office wildwoodoffice@piedmont.k12.ca.us or me, brhine@piedmont.k12.ca.us. Thank you!

Parents Club Update
Wildwood parents gathered at WPC’s board meeting on Tuesday to consider thoughtful ways to spend WPC’s budget earmarked for supporting our school.
Many awesome ideas were shared, from campus beautification to capital improvements to unique opportunities for staff and students.
Next steps: a committee of volunteers will organize the ideas, consider feasibility and price tag, and present them to at the next WPC meeting on March 25th, when the Board aims to begin putting some of these plans into action.
Your input is welcome! Please email WPC if interested.

Sally Chapin and Vic Manley are representing Wildwood for this season and are available to answer any questions and field ideas. All fundraising ideas are welcome! We’d love to see what Wildwood can come up with.
Interested in getting involved? Reach out to Sally at sallybakerchapin@gmail.com or Vic at victoria.manley@gmail.com.
