Message from the Superintendent

Hello TPS Community,

Another incredible school year has drawn to a close, and what a journey it has been!

The last few days of the school year bring a mix of emotions—excitement for summer adventures, pride in all we've accomplished, and yes, some sadness as we say farewell to those moving on to new chapters. The energy is contagious as students, families, and staff celebrate another year of growth, learning, and community building. We all have so much to be proud of. Well done, TPS!

Your School Committee shares that pride in our school community as well and welcomes you to review the amazing progress made in our schools this year in their 24-25 State of the District Review letter linked below. Their collective leadership and focus on students and their support for those who serve students is outstanding. As a proud member of this community myself, I can confidently say that Tewksbury is a GREAT place to come to school AND it is also a GREAT place to wind down over the summer.

What can you do in Tewksbury, you ask?

Well, it begins with a Summer Kick-Off celebration on June 17th (see below). Then, students and families can enjoy some time outside at our many parks around town, playgrounds, and splash pad at Saunders Recreational Facility and Fields. Ride your bikes or stroll along some of our rail trail and nature trails. Spend time watching a baseball game at one of our ballfields, and while you're there, visit our local public health museum. Learn to golf or play tennis, or get your game on at some of our local entertainment centers and restaurants too; as they have been so supportive to our students all school year. Don’t forget our public library — there’s always so much to do there.

Parents looking for full-day summer programs, organized activities, or events through the Town Recreation Department, please see the links below too. And of course, we encourage our students to read, read, read over the summer on their own, with their families, or together with friends. Our summer reading program is linked below, along with some fun math practice and learning websites. Don’t forget to fit in some downtime and play with your brothers, sisters, and friends, probably the best activity of all! No matter how you choose to spend your break, both the assistant superintendent and I wish you all a happy, healthy, and relaxing summer.

Sincerely,

Brenda Theriault-Regan

Nancy Milligan

Note: While school is not in general session over the summer, the Central Office and school offices are open. Due to fluctuating availability as people take some vacation time, please call ahead to reach your district or school administrator.

FY26 Special Education Planning

The Tewksbury Public Schools Special Education department is undergoing a strategic reorganization to better serve all students through improved inclusion practices and streamlined support services. Following a state determination that identified areas for improvement in inclusion practices, the district has been working with DESE throughout the year to develop comprehensive action plans and has successfully moved from "Needs Intervention" status to “Meeting State Requirements.” The proposed restructuring includes five distinct pathways (A through E) that provide a continuum of services from full inclusion to substantially separate programming, with all pathways designed to be fluid and responsive to individual student needs while maximizing opportunities for inclusion in general education settings. This reorganization aims to strengthen Tier 1 and 2 supports, enhance the pre-referral process, and ensure that specialized programming is delivered efficiently across all grade levels PK-12, ultimately supporting the district's commitment that "all kids are our kids" and deserve access to high-quality education in their home community.

The Special Education Department extends its gratitude to the leadership team, case management staff, and related service providers who have been instrumental in this work. We also thank our building-based focus groups composed of general and special education teachers, staff who have attended voluntary meetings at the building level, and our TSEPAC members. All of these stakeholders have collaborated throughout this ongoing process across the past few years to ensure these important updates will benefit all students and families in our community.
