From the Desk of Principal Schmid From the Desk of Principal Schmid

Hello Bobcat Families,

If you haven't been able to tell yet, I love pictures as they are memories from moments in time; something we can hold on to forever! A picture truly speaks a thousand words. Each week when I review the photos, I am reminded of all that makes Brookdale and District 204 such a special place to be! Thank you for being a part of our story...we are grateful for you!

A special shoutout to Mrs. Steinhauser-Walsh and Mrs. Sadler who brought literature to life in various ways this week! Be sure to check out the photos below to see our Kindergarten and 1st grade experience our 1st Annual "Balloons Over Brookdale" and our first author visit since prior to COVID! As a child, I never had an opportunity to hear from an author, so what a great experience our students are receiving thanks to our partnership with Anderson's Bookshop! The love for literature was sure alive in the Bobcat Den!

I hope you all have a restful Thanksgiving break filled with all the things that fill your cup! We see you giving so much to ALL you do. We appreciate you and are grateful to have you a part of our community!

Respectfully,

Dr. Keeley Schmid

Gift Back Directly to Brookdale Families in Need! Gift Back Directly to Brookdale Families in Need!

This holiday season, IPSD 204 is once again participating in Giftmart, a special event that allows invited parents and guardians from under-resourced families to shop for brand-new toys at just $2.00 each. Every dollar raised from these sales is donated directly back to participating schools to help fund much-needed classroom resources.

You can help make this event possible by donating a new, unwrapped toy for children ages 6–12. (Please, no stuffed animals or board games.)

Giftmart Toy Boxes will be available from November 7 – December 5 at:

  • High Schools: Metea Valley and Waubonsie Valley

  • Middle Schools: Granger, Crone, Gregory, and Fischer

  • Elementary Schools: Brookdale, Brooks, Cowlishaw, Fry, Graham, Georgetown, Gombert, May Watts, McCarty, Owen, Patterson, Peterson, Welch, and Young *Toy donations can turned in to the Giftmart box inside Brookdale's vestibule.

Prefer to shop online? You can send a gift directly through our wish lists:

  • Walmart Wish List

  • Target Wish List

Your donation helps make the holidays brighter for families who need it most and supports our schools and community at the same time. Thank you for sharing the spirit of giving!

Are you a family looking to attend and shop at Giftmart? Be on the lookout for an invitation to this year's Giftmart on December 13th. RSVPs are needed by 12/1.

Incelement Weather Update

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we reviewed how our district responds to inclement weather. In the past, our only options were to either close schools for the day or remain open. This year, for the first time, we are adding two additional choices: a delayed opening and an early dismissal.

A delayed opening means schools will begin two hours later than normal. This option allows time for road conditions to improve and for our crews, along with local municipalities, to clear and treat roads, parking lots, and sidewalks. Schools will still dismiss at their regular times.

An early dismissal means schools will open on time but end two hours earlier than normal. For example, if your child’s school typically dismisses at 3:00 p.m., an early dismissal would mean a 1:00 p.m. release. On these days, all afternoon activities and clubs will be canceled.

We understand that any change to the school day impacts families. We encourage you to consider now who could pick up your children if an early dismissal is called, or who could be with them in the morning if we have a delayed opening and you need to leave for work. Making a plan in advance will help ensure a smooth transition if we need to use these options.

As always, our top priority is the safety of students and staff. We will make decisions as early as possible, ideally the evening before. However, changing weather may sometimes require a decision the morning of school.

These new options align our practices with those of other districts in Illinois and across the country. They also give us more flexibility than the traditional “open or closed” approach.

For more details, please visit the inclement weather webpage and the e-Learning webpage.

Sincerely,

Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D.
Superintendent
