Mid-Semester Report Cards

On Monday Nov. 20th all students will be given their mid-semester report cards to take home. Families can also access these reports using the Aspen link on our Website. We have also posted some instructions that show how to login. You will find the progress report at the bottom of the "Pages" top tab (see the image below).

Please take a few minutes with your youth to review the report card comments and learning skills and to help them to set goals for success for the remainder of the semester.

We encourage you to contact teachers and for students to seek extra help at school if they are struggling.

Grade 8 Parents' Night

We will host our annual Grade 8 Parents' Night on Thursday November 23rd at 6 pm.

Parents and students will be introduced to a community that celebrates the rich tapestry of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences that make each of us unique. They will have a chance to learn about the variety of programs and pathways that we offer. You will learn about the required and optional courses that grade nine students will choose. This is a good chance to see the school and to meet our staff.

Come on November 23rd to find out more about Eastside Secondary!

Attendance Matters!

DID YOU KNOW?

• Students should miss no more than 9 days of school each year to stay engaged, successful and on track to graduation.

• Frequent absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with a bully or facing some other difficulty.

• By Grade 9, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than test scores.

• Missing 10%, or 2 days a month, over the course of the school year, can affect a student’s academic success.

Make school attendance a priority

• Talk about the importance of showing up to school every day.

• Help your children maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s sleep.

If students will be away from school, please call to notify the main office (613 962 8668). Please do not call to excuse a student from class to go to the library or other location in the school. Students who are at school, must be in class. If a student has parent permission to be out of class, they must be picked up.

Please take a moment to review our attendance expectations with your youth.

Safe Arrival Absence Reporting

Beginning December 4, 2023, we will be implementing the Safe Arrival Student Absence Reporting System as our primary process for families to report student absences.

SafeArrival is a system used by HPEDSB schools to send messages to families by email, SMS text, and telephone. Care givers will be able to report student absences, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using their choice of a mobile app, the SafeArrival website, or an interactive toll-free phone number. Future absences can be reported anytime.

The Sharing Cupboard

Eastside Secondary has partnered with the HPE Learning Foundation to offer a new food sharing program that will provide nutritious food for home for any students and families that need it.

Through this special funding, we are able to offer scheduled pick up opportunities to support students and families.

Our next opportunity for students to access food for home will be Friday Dec. 15.
