PQ Tuesday Newsday
September 15, 2026
Principal Message
PQ Families,
This morning brought that first hint of a fall chill, and it’s just in time for our first Parent Curriculum Night of the school year!
Parents of children in Pre-K through Second Grade are invited to join us tonight to meet your child’s teacher and learn more about their day-to-day experiences at school. Teachers will share information about classroom expectations, routines, and the curriculum students will explore throughout the year.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your child’s classroom, get to know their teacher, and gain insight into the experiences that will shape their school year. The partnership between parents and teachers is pivotal to a child’s success, and tonight is a great opportunity to begin building that important connection.
Curriculum Night begins promptly at 6:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you tonight!
This week we are also starting the Universal Screening process. At PQ we use STAR achievement, DIBELS, and CogAt (Grades 3 & 4 only) to monitor student growth. The testing windows will be open for the next couple of weeks.
Have a wonderful Week,
Mrs. Snowdon
Please be sure to view all of the updates and announcements below.
Emergency Drills
We are continuing to conduct emergency evacuation drills at PQ. These drills are an important part of helping students and staff understand how to respond calmly and safely in the event of an emergency
Classroom Culture
As we begin a new school year, PQ is focused on creating a positive and inclusive environment where students, faculty, and staff feel valued, respected, and connected to our larger PQ community.
At the start of the school year, I shared the PQ Classroom Document below as a touchstone for students and teachers to use in every PQ classroom. These four guiding principles are not new; rather, they reflect the values that have always been at the heart of our school community. While they may seem simple, they are vital to creating a positive, respectful, and successful learning environment for everyone.
Our goal is for these principles to become more than words on a page. We want them to be reflected in the way we learn, communicate, collaborate, and support one another each day at PQ.
Rooted In Our Past, Growing Our Future
Teachers Pre-k - 5 have been adding their touchstone rock to our tree of growth. Each rock represents one the classroom culture values that they are going to focus on this year.
The MTSS Connection: Understanding MTSS and Universal Screening at PQ
Join Gina Ahearn, PQ’s MTSS Coordinator, on Tuesday, September 22, from 6:00–6:45 p.m. via Google Meet for the first session of The MTSS Connection, a new virtual family learning series designed to make PQ’s systems of support more understandable and accessible to families.
This introductory session will explore what MTSS is and how PQ uses universal screening assessments, including STAR and DIBELS, to identify student strengths and needs. Families will learn what these assessments measure, how results are considered alongside other information, and what happens after the fall screening window closes. The session will conclude with an opportunity for questions.

Eureka Squared Math Pilot
As part of the district’s long-range instructional planning and continued commitment to curriculum and instructional excellence, the district will conduct a K–8 pilot of Unit 1 of Eureka Math this fall. Students in Grades K-8 will soon start to work with Module 1 of Eureka Squared in their classrooms.
Please see the attached K-8 Math Pilot Plan that was shared last year.

From the Nurse's Desk
Message from Nurse Zaetz
Back-to-school season brings students together, but the close contact in classrooms also accelerates the spread of seasonal germs. To ensure a healthy learning environment, the school nurse's office is open during all operational hours to assess students who feel unwell. Parents are strongly urged to keep children home if they exhibit symptoms of contagious illnesses to give them time to recover and to protect classmates.
Absences, Immunizations, Medications, Welcome 2026
Please note that there is no nurse available before or after school hours. Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact the nurse with any health updates or concerns.
