Glenwood
This Week's Scouting Report
Thursday February 5, 2026
Good evening Glenwood families,
During this first week of February, we’ve enjoyed a brief break from the frigid temperatures, at least for a few days! February may be a short month, but it’s a very busy one at Glenwood. Thank you for helping make this year’s Souper Bowl of Caring another great success. We love finding creative ways to support our community while having fun together.
This month, we’re also excited to host our Glenwood Winter Olympics, a special tradition held every four years to coincide with the Olympic Games. Students will participate in events across subject areas and have opportunities to earn medals along the way. With opening ceremonies happening on Monday, be sure to talk with your children about all the excitement ahead!
In addition, classrooms will be hosting Valentine’s Day activities. Please watch for communication from your child’s teacher with details about their specific classroom plans.
Best,
Josh Rehak, Principal

National School Counseling Week - THANK YOU!
In celebration of National School Counseling Week, Glenwood is excited to recognize and thank our two incredible elementary school counselors, Mrs. Dana Vellios-Miller and Mr. Mike McMonagle!
Mrs. Vellios-Miller and Mr. McMonagle are absolute rock stars when it comes to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of our students. Whether they’re helping students work through big feelings, cheering them on through challenges, teaching classroom lessons, or simply being a calm, caring presence on a busy day, they are always there. They approach every interaction with kindness, patience, and a whole lot of heart. Their skillful and thoughtful support of every member of our community never goes unnoticed. We are so grateful to have them at GES!
Glenwood Read-A-Thon
Glenwood Read A Thon starts Monday February 23, 2026!
Read-A-Thons help our students get excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more.
About one week before our Read-A-Thon, please be on the lookout for instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their progress.
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account as soon as possible by clicking on the link below and following the simple instructions: Glenwood PTG Read-a-Thon 2026!

News from Fourth Grade
Glenwood’s Fourth Graders are traveling through the United States of America for Social Studies! The students have each picked a state to research and created a google slides presentation to share facts about their state to their classmates. As a way to learn about the geography of the United States, each student completed a "puzzle piece" of our country. The students worked collaboratively to put all of the pieces together, and created a wonderful masterpiece!
The fourth graders spent the day at Fluxspace STEM Lab completing team challenges, while exploring components of the scientific method. The students engaged in hands-on activities throughout the day, including designing a device for sustained flight in a wind tunnel. They also created a prototype of a new invention they thought would help their community. These activities allowed the students to explore engineering and physics concepts, while learning to adjust their original designs and to view failure as an essential component of the innovation process.
