Week 3
August 24, 2026 - August 28, 2026

Monday Morning Assembly
August 24, 2026
Please join us if you are able for our Monday Morning Assembly on the upper yard.
During Coffee with the Principal, a parent asked why our Friday morning assemblies were moved to Monday. Since this is a brand-new school year, we saw an opportunity to rethink the purpose and timing of our school-wide assemblies.
Our Monday Morning Assemblies are designed to bring our entire school community together at the start of each week. They give us an opportunity to kick off the week with positive energy, build school spirit, and get our students excited about the week ahead.
During each assembly, we will:
- Recognize students caught following the 5 B's.
- Celebrate and recognize classes who have demonstrated excellent attendance.
- Celebrate students who have birthdays during the upcoming week.
- Highlight important events, activities, and reminders on the agenda for the week.
- Build a strong sense of community and school pride.
Moving the assembly to Monday allows us to start each week together, energized, and focused. It is more than just an assembly! It is a chance for us to celebrate our students, recognize their accomplishments, and remind everyone that we are one school community working together toward a successful week.
Mamba Day
Monday, August 24th
Mamba Day is celebrated on August 24th each year to honor Kobe Bryant and his legacy. Mamba Day celebrates Kobe's relentless pursuit of greatness, his "Mamba Mentality" and his profound impact on the world of basketball and beyond. Participation is optional. If you would like to join us in celebrating Mamba Day, please wear your Kobe Bryant jerseys, shirts, or anything purple and gold.

Street/Parking Update
Last week I spoke to Dr. Rocio Rivas (our board member) about the parking and homeless situation around our school. She said she would reach out to the Council Member of our area on our behalf.
As a school site we have also reached out to Eunisses Hernandez's office and they will be coming to Arroyo on Thursday, August 27th for a visit.
In the meantime, should you wish to call and/or email them about your own concerns or to communicate the urgency of the homeless and parking situation, here is their contact information.

Earthquake Drill
Wednesday, 8/26/26
Signal: Voice on Intercom or when it starts to tremble
When given: At the first signs of earth tremble or movement
Drop down to knees with back to the windows.
Get under/below equipment (desk, table, chair, etc.).
Grasp equipment (table legs, etc.) with one hand and use the other hand to cover the head.
Keep the body under table or below equipment.
Wait for voice on intercom to let you know it’s safe to evacuate. In the case of a real earthquake and the intercom is not working, please use your best judgment and evacuate the students to the yard when it’s safe.
Bring out the red emergency backpack with emergency supplies.
Take out your class list and take attendance.
Report any missing students, and their last known location, to the Incident Command Center using the accountability form.
Routes may need to be altered to meet unforeseen hazards.
If students are outside, they will move to a safe area and drop to the ground.
If students are in the restroom, they will leave the restroom, move to a safe area and drop to the ground.
If students are in transit, they move to a safe area and drop to the ground.
The reason we drop is in the event of a big shake, we are not taken away by the momentum.
PTA Corner
PTA will be there both nights with food available for purchase from 4 - 7 pm, and we need your help! Please use the links below to sign up for a 1 hour shift, or to donate ice, drinks, and/or snacks:
Donate snacks & drinks! Feel free to order from this list - the shipping address is already set to ASMSM, or purchase individually-packaged items at your favorite local store and deliver to the school's front office.
*Please note that you do not need to be approved through LAUSD to volunteer for Back to School Night, but we highly recommend that you start that process through volunteerapp.lausd.net so you can participate in your child’s classroom and chaperone field trips!
Our first PTA Association meeting of the school year is on Wednesday, August 26 at 4:30 PM over Zoom. Please join us to meet the PTA Executive Board, learn about upcoming events, and discuss parent questions and ideas. Everyone is invited!

It's a Lunar Eclipse! Griffith Observatory will host an evening of stargazing and a livestream on August 27th, when the Moon will reach its deepest shadow at 9:13 pm.
