Hey, Hawk Family!

It's hard to believe we have already made it to November! As we enter this season of gratitude, I want to take a moment to thank our incredible Hawk families for your continued support, partnership, and commitment to our students. We have had an exciting first few months of school filled with learning, celebrations, school spirit, and opportunities for our Hawks to shine!

As we continue through the second nine weeks, we encourage our students to stay focused, work hard, and finish the semester strong. November is a wonderful time to reflect on all that we have to be thankful for, and I am especially grateful for the students, staff, and families who make Irons Junior High such a special place.

Let's have a great November!

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Course Selections for Cohort 2031

Hey Parents! It is time for our Cohort 2031 to start planning for their 9th-grade year and course selections at Oak Ridge High School. Can you believe it? Time has flown sooo quickly! ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ’จ

  • ORHS Counselor Visits (11/9โ€“11/10 & 11/12โ€“11/13):
The ORHS 9th-grade counselors will visit IJHS on Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday. Each student will visit the LGI for a two-day block for an overview of graduation requirements, 4-year plans, and navigating Naviance.

  • Parent Information Presentation (November 5th @ 9:00 AM via Teams):
IJHS counselors will host a short Teams meeting to help parents navigate high school graduation requirements and decode high school lingo like endorsements, CTE career pathways, and more. ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ“ฑ
Live meeting links will be released via social media and email soon! If you cannot attend live, a recording will be available.

  • Spring Follow-Up:
ORHS counselors will return in the Spring to assist our 8th graders with entering their official course selections into Naviance.

  • ๐Ÿ”— Resources: Be sure to check out the ORHS Course Selection 2027โ€“2028 Google Site for the latest updates on all things course selection!

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Empowering Families

Conroe ISD offers powerful resources on the Empowering Families website! ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’™

Partner with us to support your childโ€™s well-being and mental wellness while building skills to manage emotions, develop positive relationships, and make responsible decisionsโ€”at home, at school, and in life.

Please take advantage of this websiteโ€”it contains a treasure trove of helpful hints, tips, and insights into how CISD counselors connect with and empower families! ๐Ÿ—๏ธโœจ

โ“ What is a School Counselor? (FAQs)

The primary responsibility of a school counselor is to help students fully develop their academic, career, personal, and social abilities. ๐Ÿงญ๐Ÿ’ซ

In addition to these general responsibilities, the school counselor shall:

  • ๐Ÿ“‹ Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive school counseling program to serve all students and address the special needs of every child.

What does this look like:

Delivering Universal Campus-Wide Initiatives (Tier 1 Support)
Counselors plan and deliver proactive programs that benefit the entire student body. This includes running monthly character-education lessons, hosting event weeks (like Bullying Prevention Month or Red Ribbon Week), and presenting classroom workshops on course planning, graduation pathways, and executive functioning skills.

Facilitating Targeted Individual & Small-Group Interventions (Tier 2 & 3 Support)
To address specific student needs, counselors host targeted academic progress meetings (such as check-ins for students with failing grades or attendance concerns) and facilitate small support groups focused on social skills, anxiety management, or family changes. They also collaborate with special education teams, teachers, and parents to tailor accommodations for students requiring 504 plans or specialized behavioral support.

Analyzing Data to Evaluate Program Success & Identify Gaps
Counselors track measurable metricsโ€”such as quarterly GPA trends, attendance records, discipline referrals, and student/parent survey feedbackโ€”to evaluate what is working. They use this data at the end of each term to adjust their counseling calendar, ensuring their time and resources directly address the areas where students need the most help.

๐ŸŽฅ FROM THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR

As you can see, the cast has been working hard behind the scenes!

Our counseling team is committed to serving our students, faculty, staff, and the community at large. October was filled with opportunities to connect, encourage, educate, and supportโ€”and we're excited about what's coming next.

Thank you for being an important part of the Hawk Studios production!

๐Ÿฆ… Together, we're making excellence the main feature.

Lights. Camera. Excellence!
